I often experience a numb pain from my back where my kidney is supposed to be and this pain often runs right down to my foot. This is especially true of my left side. The pain becomes unbearable when I stand for a long time or take long walks. What medication can I take that will alleviate this problem?

Bubu:

I agree that the numb pain you describe does not sound like a kidney infection. It could be many other conditions either associated with the back, however. Even possibly a kidney stone, although it would not be increased by standing or taking long walks as you describe.

Here is an answer on the usual symptoms of kidney infection from a reputable medical website, run by the famous Mayo Clinic.

You need to talk to your doctor, and get some quick lab tests to determine if there is an active infection in your body. Typically, this just involves a blood test and a urine test; if there is active infection, these will tell. Then, they can usually treat it by an antiobiotic; if it is something else, then they can pinpoint what is causing the pain, and how to treat it best. In any event, they can give some analgesic (pain medication) to help.

Good luck,

John B.

This doesn't sound like a kidney infection. It sounds like you have a back misalignment and you have a bony process pressing on your nerve...most likely the sciatic nerve. See your doctor....in the meantime take a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication and apply heat or cold for sever pain.

sounds more like a spine/nerve condition rather than a kidney infection. I would see my doctor or chiropractor.
