My three year old son just stuck an M&M up his nose. I'm sure he is not the first and won't be the last, but I can't get it out. I don't even see it up there anymore. It isn't bothering him. I am assuming it melted and just ran down his throat. He refuses to blow his nose. Should I take him to the doctor?

My daughter did this with a button about two or three weeks back.
I was going to remove it with tweezers, but it was gone when I got into the bathroom. So I assumed it either fell out or went down her throat. She seemed fine afterwards and is still acting fine. I think as long as he isn't messing with his nose and is acting normal, keep an
eye on him in case this changes.

I did that too when I was a kid, only with beans. They kept telling me to blow out, but I didn't understand and kept sucking them further in. I do remember going to the hospital though, but beans don't melt. They might have just gone into his throat, and down to his stomach, really there isn't any where else for them to go.....is there?

If you can't see it, you need to start listening to his breathing----if he starts wheezing or having problems breathing, it could have gone into his lung.....I'm not gonna tell you to run to the ER just yet, but maybe there is an after-hours clinic you can call and talk to a nurse to see if they think he needs to be brought in.

As for the first poster--she obviously doesn't have children........

Since they do melt, and he doesn't seem to be in distress then I wouldn't worry. Perhaps they should be off the menu until he decides to enjoy them solely with his mouth...
