I agree with the previous poster's definitions--

Derived from the word "margin", it would refer to the quality of the slate of the future being lower, (by just a slight margin, ) than the original slate to which it is being compared.

It could also be interpreted as future slate being lower in quality by a negligable amount.

I think it either means Moderately or Barely.
