I agree with you Katie, the 2 miners are my choice. They endured and survived 2 painfull weeks in that mine. What a miracle? they got out alive. They deserved everything that came their way, in a way of best wishes, money,etc....Good choice. xxx

No, they were in a very bad situation and are very lucky and now rich. Australian of the year should be a person that goes out of his or her way to help others, like surgeons, firefighters that have risked thier lives etc. Not people in the media that get paid millions they dont do anything. What about the people that work for nothing and look after disabled people every day, they get nothing for that but they serve the rest of us. Nurses, Doctors. You mentioned Beaconsfield, what about the guys that risked their lives saving Brant and Todd? They are heros!! its people like that who deserve such an award not TV Personalities. Steve Irwin died tragically doing what he loved, its sad very sad, but he was a multi millionaire as well, he helped animals but so do the vlounteers in the RSPCA every day and they cant no recognition. It should go to a simple person that works everyday helping others.

There really are so many to choose from. I have narrowed down my list but to a few...

1. Sophie Delezio and her family. For all the work they have done to help other people and the charity that they have started.
2. Daniel Morcombe's parents for raising awareness about stranger danger and child safety and also for fighting to find their son.
3. Kylie Minogue because she is such a trooper.
4. Steve Irwin for being such a great guy that we lost too soon.

I dunno about Australian of the Year but Young Australian should defnately go to Sophie DeLisio. What an awesome lil fighter. Someone with that much courage at such a young age should be awarded with something like that.
