Those who want to oust the illegal Mexican immigrants from American soil, say "They're breaking the law. They're hurting the economy. They're using resources they aren't entitled to use!"

But very often I see comments like, "We should shoot them on sight!" or "They're filthy criminals" or "They live twenty to an apartment and they all stink!"

So, to what extent is a hunger for justice driving this, and to what extent is racism driving this?

I'm not Mexican, Slim. I'm not an immigrant at all, either legal or illegal.

Like I always say and will continue to say. Those people who have legitimate arguments about illegal immigrants are fine and I have no problems with them. But those who make derogatory, stereotypical comments have to go.What makes me laugh is they swear up and down that they're not racists.

Why should I have to press "1" for English?

My biggest problem with Hispanic immigrants is that many don't seem to care a thing about this country or care a thing about adapting and fitting in. They want "Little Mexico" in my back yard... I DO NOT! They are not proud to be able to speak English which many do, but would rather hide the fact and act stupid. Don't get me wrong here, I work with the public and the biggest majority are great people. It's the bad minority that causes the problem(s).

I have no problem with ANY immigrant who enters this country through legal channels. However I DO have a problem with illegals. The word illegal means against the law. There is a reason that it is a law! If someone breaks the law they become a criminal. How hard is that to understand?

No to amnesty. No to public resources for illegals. No to MY tax dollars paying for government signage in Spanish. No to MY Social Security investment paying for illegal immigrant families.

NO NO NO!!!

I don't want to shoot anybody, however I don't want to support a deadbeat, legal or illegal. I don't even want to have to pay to get the illegals back to wherever they came from. Let 'em walk!!

Maybe both, your question walks the fence so to speak.Ive been guilty of judging and making smart butt remarks too,but its atwo way street on the q&a talking crap to each other, but its like sticks and stones man.Can their be a peaceful solution, maybe, maybe not,i just play the cards ive been delt and let the chips fall where they may, people are people right or wrong, good or bad,but then again im not an illegal alien living in a country where the vast majority of its citizens wants them to leave for what ever reason,so it could be the racism determins the justice or vice versa.good question my friend.

Lamplight ,this is one of the first questions of oyurs I take seriously(sorry if you take it as a slam)
this dillema hits me hard because I lived in Wilmington Ca for 40 years and have seen both side of the coin on this issue,I have met and worked with Illegals who really did come here to prosper, and are honest hard working people, but where do we draw the line.I'll be the first to asmit there is a Mexican hating world out there, but there is also a white hating Mexican group out there, ive seen it and been perpatrated by it,I've had jobs that the group of non english people have sabatoged me at because they wanted there own kind there and not me,some of it out of fear, some out of class envy,I also agree there is a latino politacal agenda, and the offspring of some illegals have becaome gang members(yes I've heard of the arayan brotherhood too)illegals may not be completly straining the ecomomy right now but some day it will, but I agree with not using slander to approach this problem

Unfortunately racism seems to be the main driving force. I would hope that a sense of justice were the case, but most people have a knee jerk reaction. Generalize all and dismember all! I would like to see everything done on a more equal basis. First the folks who are here legally get the benefits that even illegals get. I don't have insurance and I have to pay up front in a hospital. If I were illegal, I wouldn't have to worry. So it 8 of one and 4 of the other..

Well, I've seen racist comments on both sides of the issue, and there is a lot of passion. I think the reason why people like myself are angry is because nothing is being done about illegal immigration. As a legal immigrant, it really pisses me off, and is just plain unfair to all people wanting to come to the U.S. legally. Another reason people like myself get angry is because not only are they here illegally, they thumb their noses at us by demanding amnesty, not learning English, and generally not assimilating. ILLEGALS DON'T HAVE RIGHTS, PERIOD. So everything else is just a bunch of blah blah blah blah

Since the majority of illegals are Mexicans, there is an anti-Mexican feeling even if people don't want to admit it. I have also seen this kind of comments, and I know that there can't be a STRONG anti illegal feeling without a little racism involved.

I've noticed comments like that too. I believe it's 60% racism. It seems like they all came over at once and just swamped our society and economy and i think that frustrates alot of people. I think they should leave too because what they've done is illegal but i also think next time when people make comments about illegal immigration they should take a step back and see what they're really saying.

I do know ,illegals lovers do like to drop the race card ,so that they can try and lay a guilt trip on Americans. BTW,have you read how Mexico treats their illegals?

"Some of the worst abuses take place on the coffee plantations of Chiapas state, where some 40,000 Guatemalan field hands endure backbreaking jobs and squalid living conditions to earn roughly $3.50 a day. Some growers even deduct the cost of room and board from that amount. "If you ask them, 'Why are you bringing in Guatemalans to work?' they say, 'You can't depend on Mexicans. They don't work hard; they're irresponsible'," says George Grayson, a political scientist specializing in Mexico at the College of William & Mary. "The truth is, you can pay [the guest workers] a pittance. And if they cause the slightest disturbance, you can send them back to Guatemala."

A lot of times I have seen that those who support illegals, either hire them or know someone who is an illegal. Illegals are law breakers. Immigrants who have gone thru the proper channels and obeyed the laws I have no problem with.

I'm not answering the question you asked because I don't know, but if I were from Mexico, and I had a crappy life there. I would probably be an illeagal immigrant also, to make my life, and my family's life the best it could possibly be. It's a matter of suvival for those people.
I think the people that give negative comments about the Mexican people should think about, if they were born there, and what they would do themselves to make a better life.
