I have been having the same problem! I normally use St.Ives lotion and does well but this winter OMG just been wrecking havoc on my skin so I resulted to Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula lotion for Dry, Ashy Skin because it has cocoa butter, shea butter, and alpha/beta hydroxy in it! This is new from Palmer's and its REALLY good. But either way, you can't go wrong with cocoa butter or shea butter. They're both wonderful for preventing dryness and soothing your skin.

I have VERY dry skin on my fingers. I get horrible winter splits that bleed. I can not even wash dishes in the evening. I found a jar called Dermal Therapy that the pharmacist brought to me when I inquired. It is a 2-ounce jar and the two main ingredients are water and urea. The urea makes the skin draw in moisture. What you have to do is apply Dermal Therapy at night, just before bed, after having washed your hands and when the skin is moist and aborbant. Apply the cream. It is NOT a hand lotion. The urea makes the skin porous and it absorbs water better. During the day use hand cream. After just a few days you will see that your skin is very smooth and soft. I use a little on my face so I don't see why you can't either.
Remember, Dermal Therapy isn't a hand lotion, or a lotion at all, but a medical treatment for dry skin. You put it on at night before bed. It absorbs very well, you won't even feel it. Then during the day use your lotions. The lotions will start to be able to absorb better and the dry skin will go away. The pharmacist told me that the urea in the treatment lotion makes the skin like it was when young..

Make sure you're washing your face with a really mild cleanser. If you're skin feels tight after you wash it you're stripping away too much of your skin's natural oil. Try a milky cleanser instead of a foaming one. After you wash apply your moisturizer while your skin is still a little damp. The moisturizer will help seal the water into your skin. You can also get Evian spray & spritz a little on before you moisturize.

My favorite brand of skin care is Kimberly Sayer. The Gentle Face Cleanser is really mild. My absolute favorite is her Restore moisturizer. It's nice & thick & really gentle. It's really not that expenisive, either, but if you want to go a cheaper route Cetaphil is always a good option. They have both cleanser & moisturizers.

Good luck. If it keeps up you may want to go see a dermatologist. They may be able to prescribe you something even stronger.

Ok, I suffer from eczema really bad. I get rough, dry patches all over my face. I went to the doctors and there are 2 things that work: Cortizone Cream and Eucerin Cream. They both can be found in a drug store. Apply the eucerin cream during the day. At night before bed, wash your face with whatever you use. Put the cortizone on then the eucerin. The cortizone is really greasy so that is why it goes on before nighttime. I did this and it worked great for me. Good luck...

The same thing happens to me especially on my arms. I went to the dermatologist and he gave me a prescription Ammonium Lactate lotion and its amazing. If you dont want to or cant do that then some really good lotions are Jergens, Fruit of the Earth, Olay, Dove, St. Ives. You could also try using a moisturizing body wash like Softsoap Pure Cashmere
then do waht the others said, humidifier, lots of water, no long hot showers etc.,

my skin gets very dry in the winter as well. i use proactive moisturizer right before i put on my concealer and i love it. it makes my skin moisturised for long periods of time and it also has SPF in it which is good for when you are outside so that you dont get wrinkles down the road.

I have the worst dry skin on my forehead and nose. I use DOVE Sensitive Skin lotion. It works very well and lasts so I don't have to layer up. Make sure that you drink a lot of water throughout the day so you can keep your skin hydrated and clear. I am 5'4 and my doctor told me to drink AT LEAST 72 oz. of water a day. Good Luck!

Wash your face once a day with a moisturizing face wash, continued with a facial cream specialized for dry skin. Also try a mayonaize mask. I know it sounds wierd but it really works. Just leave it on for 10 minutes after washing face and rince it off with warm water.
