Well. I guess there is a point of view issue here. 14 year old girls are young indeed now.
Remembering that the moral code of the bible has been altered to go with the ideals of "proper courtly society" And that Papal edicts set that moral code, Current with societies that frown on any age issues, people over forty hear it too when they have children.
The bible quran and torah are frameworks for a lifestyle. They only outline how one should behave. In 1330 the warnings went out that priests who were forced to celibacy would "find other means" Priests are still celibate but the proof behind controlling sexuality is right in the forefront of Catholic critique.
Civilizations that grow beyond the edicts of one faith turn to another, albeit gradualy. Greeks and romans turned to Catholicism. Europeans followed and it grew. Biblical law was not always the law nor was it the basic rule of society.
Now we see that people who were well seated in church doctrines are breaking away and seeking something else. EBFs (earth based faiths) are growing faster than ever. People trade churches often. They hunt for answers, they cant find.
biblical society is breaking down and change is needed. It cant all fit unless it is changed.

I believe Mary was 16, which is the age of consent in some states even now. Remember, however, that the average life span was much, much shorter back then. At the time of the American Revolution it was about 30 years versus 76 now. I might have been even lower in year 1 A.D. So all people had to get started earlier back then.

The difference is that in Mary's time it was culturally acceptable to marry young -- don't forget....the life expectancy rate probably wasn't much more than 40-something!
This does not infer that "parts of the bible are not acceptable for us nowadays".....

It was not until the past 50 years or so that teenage pregnancy was found inacceptable (both my grandmothers married in the 30's at 14 and 15 and had kids also in their teens). Thanks to women's lib and the like, women are more likely to be independent longer and try marriage and kids at a later date, if at all. So I think it's pretty ridiculous to assume anything about God's decision to allow Mary to Jesus's mother.

The age of consent in Canada right now is 14, and even 12 and 13 year olds are legally allowed to have sex with someone who is less than 2 years older. And aren't you in Spain, where the age of consent is 13?

Cryin' out loud, if you don't want to believe then don't. Let me ask you: Why do you and so many others spend so much time trying to convince yourself that God doesn't exist? If he doesn't, or if the Bible is not truly his infallible word; what do you care? It seems that if you are correct then there are many better uses of your time than this.

no. pople died you nger then. we die around 70-90. they died 40-50. if they wanted grandchildren, they had to get married then (at 14). plus it was a different century and a different custom.

Nobody knows how old she was - there is absolutely no evidence that she was 14.
