First lets look at where you plan on getting a signal. Cable, Satellite, Air.

Cable, they will supply a box, (you need to tell them you want to get HD.) if this is all then you don't need the HD tuner, just a monitor---- that's a TV without tuners.

Satellite --- the same.

Air. then you need tuners, most TVs that have HD tuner also have an analog tuner, in a couple more years analog is out everything is digital that doesn't mean HD it just means digital.

If your getting some channels locally, off the air, and some from cable or satellite or both. then you need the tuner.

HD with tuner and nothing else you can watch DVD or VHS but nothing else.

Lots of HDTV's now have both analog and digital HD tuners, when they tell you a tv is HD Ready that means it doesn't have a HD tuner kinda sounds funny when you say hd ready and it means you have to have something else to get hd. Satellite is probably the best bet, in any case you need to be specific about the cable box or the sat. receiver that you need HD.

I have two Sat receivers one is HD and the other is not, I also have air antenna, So I get HD off air from 7pm to 12pm because it is a small town and they only have hd when the network is running the show.

Enjoy

To get local channels you need a HD-antenna. To get more channels you need a cable provider and a receiver.

You can get an indoor HD-antenna but doesn't work for everyone. It depends where you live. Check amazon.com and search terk hd-antenna. I bought one and I get some hd channels but not all. I don't know how good outdoor antennas are but those require alot more work. You'd have to mount it outside your home and wire it to your tv somehow and find the best angle.
