Not having enough Disc Space means that your hard drive is past a working fill limit. The only remedy to this situation is to delete/ uninstall things, or back stuff up on removable media.
deleting things off the start menu will not free up much more space than a floppy disk. You are actually deleting just a link to those programs, not the programs themselves. If you want to delete programs- uninstall them. to do this, go to the start menu, 'control panel', 'add/remove programs', and uninstall them from there. the program size is on the right hand side. Other things you can do is put on Cd's or DVD's, music or pictures or even documents that you have saved on your hard drive. usually in the 'My Documents' folder.

Do you have a file shareing program like Limewire or something? sounds like your hard drive is full of music, video or some other stuff. Most PCs made in the last 3 years come with at least 30g hard drive. Windows takes up about 3.8 Gigs that leaves and easy 26 gigs of free space. Best thing I can tell you is to start learning. Fred Langa explains pc and windows stuff real good.
http://www.langa.com
That is Fred Langas website, I strongly suggest that you use his search feature and look up How to Backup.
You would be suprized at how many home users never even think of makeing a backup, then the puter crashes, gets a virus, and they are all mad because all that work is now gone.
All it takes is 1/2 an hour a day 3 days a week.
You either have a whole buncha games and programs added on or a way lotta music, or its just a case of misplaced and duped files.
You can open Windows Explorer, then select Local Drive C: right click it and select Properties. A graph or pie chart will show up. This chart will show you exactly how much free space is on the drive and how much is used.
There is about 100 things I could suggest, but I have no idea if the files and data need to be backed up or if they can be safley gotten rid of. So is kinda tuff, read up on it at langa.com, I will give you a few of his links.

Hope that helps a bit. if there is more than one person useing that PC, ask them before you delete stuff, that is why we make backups, for those WHOOPS moments.

Typically on Windows machines, what you delete is not really deleted, just moved to the "Recylce Bin" on the desktop. You can right click on that icon and select "Empty Recycle Bin" to actually free up some disk space.
Also, deleting programs from the start menu is not going to gain you much space and is a bad idea anyway. Programs should be deleted by using their uninstall program or the "Add/Delete Programs" feature of windows.
If you are looking for the best place to free up disk space, look for music or video files or photos and either delete them or archive them off to a CD.
