I feed her everyday, scoop her litter box daily, bathe her monthly, and I'm very affectionate toward her, yet she'll choose to be with my husband over me every time! He does nothing for her (as far as her care is concerned). She'll curl up on his lap, or sleep on his chest while he's laying on the couch and purrs so loudly it sounds as if she is snoring. She doesn't seem to want me -- only when it's time to eat, or when I scoop or change her litter box. She won't stay with me more than a couple of minutes, and rarely if ever purrs when she is with me. Could this be because of the baths? Why does she just treat me like her personal servant and nothing else?

Things in his favor are:
1) Being male, his lap and chest are probably warmer than yours.
2) He probably doesn't take any crap from the cat. Cats respect that. (the cat thinks he's dominant)
3) You ARE her personal servant. (the cat thinks you're submissive)
What you can do about it:
1) Authoritatively demand attention. Firmly hold the cat and cuddle it against it's will. (I have a female I have to treat like this, she purs up a storm and tries to escape... and only goes 1 foot away where I can grab it again)
2) Watch for signs that the cat is training you and gaining dominance. i.e. making you go out of your way for something, "almost" cooperating, not moving out of your way, etc. Don't tolerate this.
3) Cats often suffer from what I call the "Queen/Bi0tch" syndrome. Treat them like a queen, they become a bi0tch. Treat them like a bi0tch, they become a queen. All kindness all the time gains no respect in a cat.

Perhaps your cat views you as the submissive one, her servant rather than her mistress since you clean up her litter box???
Be patient, ignore her, let her come to you. Since you seek her attention and your husband ignores her she wants his attn that much more. A sneaky way to get her to "prefer" you is to be the only one that gives her kitty snacks.
Also, why are you bathing her every month?? Maybe you could cut it back to every few months?? Have your husband help you next time you bathe her.

Have that issue in my house just in reverse cat adores me and does not like my husband. He has been very good to Kitty, but for some odd reason my cat does not like him. The only time he shows my husband some affection is just before bed he will let my husband pet him, very slowly of course. We cannot figure it out. He has tried very hard with him for the past 4 years but he gets little if any love in return. When I am not home my husband says he won't even come to him. I am planning to go out of town to visit family and hope that maybe while I am gone they can bond? Good Luck.

Possibly it is the baths, or the vet visits-- but cats are like people--they like who they like. I had one cat that would only purr for my husband and would stop once he saw me. My two current cats purr and are affectionate with all of us. They prefer to sleep with me but will prefer my husband on the couch.

Maybe your cat doesn't liked tobe bothered while its sleeping and it knows to choose your husband, or it may not like the bathes and not like you that much. Ease up on you bathes, use wipes instead, or just bathe every other month. My cat does the same thing with my dad and brother in law. They dont like cats but my cat loves to sleep with them. Hope this helped!

I think the reason is that she is trying to get his attention. Cat's sometimes want to be with someone who is not paying attietion to them. My kitten was the same way with my boyfriend. He would wait by the door for my boyfriend. Dont worry , it's not you. Have a nice day.

You are her personal servant.
Your there for her comfort and your husband is there for the cuddles. Maybe you should try swapping roles for a bit and see if any changes occur. Let him do the baths.

Cats sense things and she is sensing his "lack" of attention and trying to get it anyways...my cat prefers the hubby too and he's not a cat person. Every cat I have had has made it their "mission" to bug the heck out of him! :))
