An old man lived alone in Ireland. He wanted to spade his potato garden, but it was very hard work.

His only son, who would have helped him, was in Long Kesh Prison.

The old man wrote a letter to his son and mentioned his predicament.

Shortly, he received this reply, "For HEAVEN'S SAKE Dad, don't dig up that garden, that's where I buried the GUNS!"

At 4 A.M. the next morning, a dozen British soldiers showed up and dug up the entire garden, without finding any guns.

Confused, the old man wrote another note to his son telling him what happened, and asking him what to do next.

His son's reply was: "Now plant your potatoes, Dad; It's the best I
could do from here."

Down the street a fight breaks out with some British soldiers, just as two drunk Irish men walk out of a bar. One sees a haed roll past and says "lord beholden, isn't that Patrick there?" The other man says "no, Patrick was much taller than that!"

Yes actually and it made sense the british dug up the ground and the dad would have usually asked the son to dig the ground for him

I've heard it before only with an Italian son helping his mom with the tomatoe garden and he says "that's where i buried the bodies."
I like the Italian version better....more mafioso.
