Google the name and see if you get any hits in New Orleans or around Lafayette, Louisiana or Mobile, Alabama.
It might be a Cajun name.
If it is a Cajun name, it is most likely French.
Cajun names are not always spelled the same way they are spelled in France.
Not all Cajuns have French names, either. Cajuns have mixed with English, Indians, Germans, Spanish and others since they came to Louisiana in the late 1700's and early 1800's.

Roution: is not a French word. If it is a Cajun name or noun, it could be deformed and could be the name of a place.
Route means road or way. It could be a place where to stay for
a while near by a road, a way or a street. Cheers.

I'm French, but I couldn't find it in the dictionary (a very good online dictionary). Apparently, it wasn't a French word at least from the 17th century onwards. So, I don't know.

Have a you tried Ancestry.com? It says that most people with that last name are concentrated around Kentucky. A possible variation of that surname may be Rowton.
