using a theodolite,I want to shoot a sraight line along the ground,how is that possible?

what I am trying to do is make a sraigt line,from the corner of a bld. so I can make a 90 degree turn,I am trying to verify if the actual corner is at a 90 degree.

Shooting a straight line should be easy if you are set up on the line. Are the corners existing? Can you set up on the actual corner? Do you also have an EDM? If you are trying to do this just by turning angles you either have to set up on the actual corner or use offsets, which requires some way to accurately measure distance. I am kinda confused about what exactly you are up against.
