It's been four days since i drank heavily at a new year's party and every day since the party i've had huge headaches all day long. I've been drinking water and taking headache medicine to try to make it go away but its not helping. Is it normal to have it last this long and what can I do?

You know you have a hangover when you have a headache, nausea, intestinal upset, and perhaps diarrhea, aches in the muscles and joints, and fatigue. Now let's look at some prevention techniques and remedies. Hangovers are no fun, so you really need to know what to do!

YOU NEED TO HAVE.....

Almonds American Indians claim that eating 6 raw almonds before imbibing helps prevent intoxication.

Peanut Butter Eating peanut butter before drinking is an African remedy

Sports drinks, high in electrolytes, will help replenish what the kidneys have excreted during drinking. Take before bedtime

Water One of the best preventive measures is to drink 2-3 large glasses of water before you go to bed. Drinking alcohol is very dehydrating and hydrating your system helps counteract the effects of the alcohol.

Exercise will help get rid of your hangover by helping the body rid itself of toxins. The increased circulation gets blood and oxygen to your oxygen-starved brain.

You should try drinking a sports drink like Gatorade to help rehydrate. Water is good, continue drinking lots of it. Don't drink alot of beverages with caffeine. You might be needing potassium as well. So grab a banana, or baked potato to help with that. Keep taking Ibuprofen if it helps at all. If you still have a headache after doing this for a day make an appointment. It's probably not from you drinking. It could just be a coincidence.

In the future.....drink some water before you start drinking. Have a Gatorade before bed and again in the morning. It makes a huge difference if you've been heavily drinking.

The headache is due to dehydration. Are you drinking anything other than water that contains caffeine? This will also dehydrate you (though not at the level of alcohol). Drink plenty of water and if by the weekend the headaches persists, may be time to see a doctor.

That headache is the result of a hangover, and supposedly, drinking more is the only way to get rid of a hangover. Unfortunately, if you drink more, you will probably wake up with a worse hangover after the party.

Put up with the headaches until they go away. But keep the memory of them in your head whenever you're at another party.

Most everyone here is correct. When you are dehydrated, your brain shrinks slightly in size, which, amongst other things, causes the headache. Drinking as much water as possible is the only remedy.
