Whenever I leave my house for a long period of time, my 1 year border collie ALWAYS takes one of my thing that I either llove dearly or use alot. Why does she do that? Does she just want more attention? And yes since she's a border collie she needs LOTS of exercise, I run/play/walk/run with her 3 hours a day. But why does she do that??

She takes your things because your scent is on them. She misses you when you are away and your scent is comforting to her. Wear an old tee shirt for a day and give it to her (don't wash it) or roll up a pair of dirty socks and give them to her. This gift from you will become her prized possession and she should leave your other things alone.

Your Dog loves you, and craves your scent.
I have a special stuffed animal for my dog when I leave.
I keep it on top of the fridge, give it to my dog with a
"good-bye" treat. That way the dog know's he's not going with me. And has an appropriate toy or favorite thing that is special to both of us that only the dog can distroy.

good luck!

She might take the thing that u love or use alot cause your scent is all over it. Its her way of being with you while your away. If she is chewing on your stuff I think that is your punishment for leaving her alone. Hope this helps

your dog might do this because she's still young. that might be part of the reason. otherwise, i don't know. and because she is still young she has a lot of energy. i'm not saying playwith her more than what you do now, i'm just saying i think she just is young with a lot of energy.

Because she can smell you on the item, and that way she can remain close to you while you are gone.
