Chao is Spanish and the equivalent of "Ciao" in Italian, meaning "Good bye, or see you later", But if your spelling is not wrong, it could be "Chau" in Chinese which is a surname.
I have a friend by the name of James Chau.
There is also a dance in India using a mask, called the Chau Dance, and three villages bearing that name:
Anb there are three villages called: Purulia Chau of Bengal, the Seraikella Chau of Bihar, and the Mayurbhanj Chau of Orissa, in India.

I would enjoy talking with you so that I could get to know you and to be friends. Even though I don't think we would talk all that much since I've already told you that I'm not very good at English, lol. I leave a kiss for you, Sophie. Cya! Bye bye. From: Benjamin Not translated word for word nor put in a translator. My best bet would be that they are Guatemalan because of the use of "Vos" which most of the other countries do not use.

Chau is commonly used by Peruvians and means bye. Chao is less common in Peru.
Chao (or adios, hasta luego, hasta la vista) is also used in Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, España, México, Puerto Rico y Venezuela and it also means bye.
Chau or chao are not accepted as proper Spanish terms by the "Real Academia de la Lengua"....yet.

Not it is not.
Chau is a misspelling of the italian word "ciao", that means hello or bye bye.
The pronunciation of the italian word "ciao" written in spanish is "chao" or "chau" and in this way it is use in spanish
