my friend did something cute and cheap, and it looked great:
buy large square mirrors, from ikea or something.
buy colored or clear martini glasses in different sizes: Large, Medium, Small
buy colored glass stones from Michael's, and tea light candles
at each table, over the table cloth, put the square mirror in the center. arrage one martini of each size around the center of the mirror. put a handful of glass stones inside the glasses, and on the mirror scattered. fill glasses with water, add tealight on top.
looks really good! and not too expensive ~

Hurricanes on top of mirrors with a candle in the center are always a great start. Then you can surround the hurricane with some of the flowers and accent with some starfish or seashells, if you are using a beach theme. Then place small glass votives around the hurricane with tea lights. If you get a large enough mirror and use clear votives and clear tealights, the reflextion off the mirrors will act as a double duty illumination. Remember you don't want to much height in the center so that your guests can't see eachother or candle holders that are easily tipped over after several hours of drinking. Good luck!

Buy two or three large seashells. Place them in the center of the table on a bamboo mat or colored cloth in your wedding colors, then place votive candles around them and in between them.
Fill clear glass bowls with light blue colored water. Fill the bottom with sand and a few seashells. Place floating candles on top.
or
Place colored sand in the bottom of the bowl. Fill with light blue tinted water. Place a sand "castle" on the bottom of the bowl (you can find items such as this at any pet store that sells fish). Add a bit of fake seaweed for effect.
If you don't wanty to add the water. You could just place a white pillar candle down into the sand surrounded by seashells and colored rocks/gems.

I dont know how you can go over board on the beach theme... I live in the pacific Northwest so you can see my point... I love the thought of sand and coral, seashells, sand dollars, starfish with candles nestled around. How about tropical fruit centerpiece. Pineapples, mangos, oranges, grapes mixed along with shells and maybe fish netting. Good Luck

I made my own candles this is very easy and are great to send home with guests. Try making yours in different shaped and coloured bottles (message in the bottle idea) then place on top of palm leaves(can't remember what they are called) Or make sand candles (do this by digging different shapes in sand filling with wick and candle wax) when you remove from the sand the sand sticks to the outside of the candles you can make them any colour and scent. spread a few rocks with painted words (like love)around a group of them let your guests take these home as souvenirs. Best of luck and Congratulations

I agree with the use of Hurricane Lamps with smaller votives around the table. Perhaps a small floral arrangement around the base of the hurricane lamp to finish it. Needless to say, don't put shells on the table, keep your setting neat and crisp as you are the focus of the day and there is enough natural scenery to enjoy without overkill. Hope this helps and congratulations.

1 idea is to get a clear decorative bowl and fill it with colored water and use floating candles.
