I am trying to eat healthier so I am eating more salads, but I want something new in my salads to add flavor, not fat. Before I go out and buy them, what do radishes taste like, and does anyone have any other healthy suggestions for salads?

Radishes have a sharp, almost coppery taste alongside a slightly sweet, green taste. They almost have a 'fizz' taste as you chew them.

Rubbing the salad bowl with fresh garlic can add a nice subtle taste. Mixed greens are a great change from simple greens, nuts can add a nice flavor, providing you with healthy fats, not the bad kind. Carrots are a great salad addition, as are bell peppers, or cucumbers.

Some advice on salads.
Be careful with your dressing. Tons of people think that salads are way healthier than anything else. Most are. However, lots of people drown their salads with dressing. Most salads that are drowned are worse than eating a cheeseburger!
Be careful with the dressing. When buying dressing, always check the back lable. Too much calories and grams of fat are BAD! Try to stick to fat free dressings.
Anyways, radishes.
Personally I don't like radishes. But some people do.
Radishes are a peppery, crisp, root vegetable most often eaten raw while still immature. When overgrown (or mature) the root becomes less crisp and frequently has an overly hot and/or bitter taste.

Like everyone else said, peppery and a little spicy. Try one on its own, and then try one dipped in a little butter substitute; butter is better, obviously, but you're going for healthy. I love radishes, but as with anything, it's a matter of taste. Visit a good market and see if they'll let you try one before buying.

Always good for adding flavor to salad without the fat:
lemon juice
vinegar
fat-free croutons or bagel chips
roasted almonds (has fat, but good fat, i think?)
turkey bacon
Mrs. Dash (my favorite seasoning; I don't even miss the salt)
onions
chick peas
pineapple
olives
sunflower seeds

Stay away from cheese, processed meats, and fatty dressings and you'll be good to go!

Radishes have a sharp, spicy taste, very fresh and crisp, but just a little bit hot.
Whatever you decide to put in a salad, make it colourful; like red and yellow peppers, dark coloured greens, like spinach or romaine, dark red tomatoes, red onions, radicchio, etc. The brighter the colours, the healthier the vegetables.

They are cruchy, and kind of have the strong taste of an onion. I don't really like them, but they're OK.
