My 1-1/2 year old peek-a-poo had his vaccine yesterday and today he has a runny nose and is not feeling very well. I took him back today and they told me that this is normal. He didn't have this same reaction the last time he had this vaccine. Has anyone ever had this happen to their dog? Should I worry?

They can get a nasal infection from the intranasal, but it mostly happens in long nosed breeds.

But any vaccine can cause trouble for any dog. I don't give bordatella because I have had problems with it, and the only 2 times I have had kennel cough was the 2 times I gave the vaccine, and this is after 30 years of going to dog shows. It is a totally unneccessary vaccine, kennel cough is not that big of a deal, it is only a concern in the rare case where it develops into pneumonia.

Any vaccine is created by exposing white blood cells to small amounts of the virus. It will contain some amounts of live virus to make it more effective. Your dog just has a very mild dose of kennel cough to create the antibodies needed to fight off a possible major infection. Children react the same to some of their vaccines for the same reason. Just watch him and if it seems to get worse take him back to the vet.

I would believe the vet. If it does not improve in a reasonable amount of time then get dog re-checked
