You can use stick margarine(not the kind in a tub; it usually has too much water), or you can use vegetable shortening like Crisco. Substitute one for one for the butter called for. I'm not crazy about them but obviously many people are fine with them. However, if you're making cookies like shortbread or sugar cookies where the whole point of the cookie is that melt-in the-mouth thing, it'd be better to use butter. The substitutes will make cookies all right but they won't taste like much and they won't have that melt-in-the-mouth thing. Figure out how much butter is called for in your recipes and how much butter costs versus the alternatives. You might not really be saving all that much.

Peanut butter?
I'm afraid there isn't much you can use to sub for butter. Unless you have butter flavored shortening.. but I don't think they will taste right. It might have the same consistency but the flavor won't be there.

All fruits are fruit and vegetables. A "vegetable" is a plant, any part of which can be used for food.

In the superstore, fruits are usually picked out much too soon. Some are rocks, many are wrong. Some of the fresh vegetables are right (zucchini, onions, garlic, lettuce, greens, and a few others) so I'd have to go with vegetables.
