When all the people who do hate it CLEARLY don't know anything about it. They seem to think that stuff like rape is allowed in Islam, and that muslims are told to kill innocent people, that women are allowed to be beat senseless when none of this is true.

Narrated Wa'il ibn Hujr:
"When a woman went out in the time of the Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) for prayer, a man attacked her and overpowered (raped) her. She shouted and he went off, and when a man came by, she said: That (man) did such and such to me. And when a company of the Emigrants came by, she said: That man did such and such to me. They went and seized the man whom they thought had had intercourse with her and brought him to her.
She said: Yes, this is he. Then they brought him to the Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him). When he (the Prophet) was about to pass sentence, the man who (actually) had assaulted her stood up and said: Apostle of Allah, I am the man who did it to her.
He (the Prophet) said to the woman: Go away, for Allah has forgiven you. And about the man who had intercourse with her, he said: Stone him to death.

[2.190] ...fight in the way of Allah with those who fight with you...[2.191] And kill them wherever you find them, and drive them out from whence they drove you out, and persecution is severer than slaughter, and do not fight with them at the Sacred Mosque until they fight with you in it, but if they do fight you, then slay them; such is the recompense of the unbelievers.
193]...fight with them...[194]...whoever then acts aggressively against you, inflict injury on him according to the injury he has inflicted on you...

O you who believe! You are forbidden to inherit women against their will; and you should not treat them with harshness that you may take away part of the mahr you have given them unless they have committed open fahishah (illegal sexual intercourse) and live with them honourably. If you dislike them, it may be that you dislike a thing through which Allah brings a great deal of good. [4:5.19]

an idiot: Convert or die? That's not true. We can't force people to convert. We welcome people to the religion but don't force it. You might have come accross people who do this but that is wrong! Loads of people I know converted by choice.

Let me just make it clear that if some muslims don't follow the religion like they should, it does not mean Islam is a bad religion. If some humans are murderers it does not mean all humans are murderers, you see what I mean, and it does not mean that it what we should do.

I understood why you may hate some muslims, but my questions is why hate Islam? I KNOW some muslims do bad things, fair enough you don't like them, but don't blame Islam which teaches us not to do these things. The problem is, a lot of ignorant people talk about how Islam tells us to do these bad things, but it really doesn't.

Mountain class is the kind of person i was talking about. Someone who does not actually know about the religion yet tries to prove that what they believe it to be about is true. If these people don't know about the religion properly, then why say something they do not know about as if it is a fact? If people actualy took the time to read the Quran, they would see that what they say is not true.
And as for someone saying that they've read the Quran and disagree with it because of things that happen in certain places, AGAIN! What has what certain muslims do got to do with Islam?

migelito...explain what? If you read properly you'll see I don't care about you hating muslims, but I'm talking about Islam. If people falsly accuse someone or make a bad judgement it does not give anyone a reason to hate islam.

"Don't tell me that that isn't true, when i've been told by one of them that it is."
- So what? What one muslim says does not mean it is true. So if a person said that because they are white they are racist, then that does not mean that all white people are racist and that it is a fact.

Many people hate Islam because they lack the capacity to separate media hype from fact. What I hate is religion being used as an excuse to terrorise other people (this includes ALL religions). The media only report and sensationalise the extreme behaviour of those who profess to be speaking for all in their particular religion, that's just how they make their money at the end of the day. I know some Muslims and they happen to be very nice people and like 99.9% of the population want to get on with their own lives without being prejudiced against. As a christian myself, I believe that ALL races, colours and creeds are equal and hatred should never exist.

My view is that I don't hate Islam but I don't like those people who kill and maim in the name of religion - any religion.
At the moment the most publicised of whom would appear to be Muslims.
I don't believe that Islam actually sanctions this but I do dislike the fact that more Mulsims don't condemn this disgusting behaviour.
As a Christian I would be quick to condemn any so-called Christian who blew up planes, trains and people in the name of Christianity.
Someone I worked with was lost in the 7/7 bombings in London and as a result I spent two months walking to work for an an hour each way rather than getting on the Tube. As a result I have absolutely no time for those Muslims who talk about this abhorrent behaviour as being justified because they feel marginalised.

I believe that humans are tribal in nature. We like to find a group that we identify with and we like to hunker down with our own kind and exclude those who are unlike us.
Look at sports teams and the fanatics who riot after major games. Look at university fraternities and the people who are so desparate to pledge that they end up dying from the pledging process. Look through history and see the wars that have occurred when people line up by race, religion, country, or creed.
Muslims are different from many of us. They have different color skin, different beliefs, different lifestyle. It is easy for us, as territorial creatures, to see those differences as threatening and scary. Even the most enlightened person can slip into the trap of fearing an unknown culture or a different person. I think that is why so many Americans hate Islam - they can only see the scary differences, rather than get past their territorial natures and see the similarities between Islam and other religions.
Yes, the Koran / Quran has problem verses that advocate war and violence. So does the Bible - lots of them, many of them downright genocidal. On the topic of rape, the Bible recommends that a raped woman be put to death, under certain circumstances. I'm Wiccan, but hey - ever heard of wicker men? That's right, at one time Pagans tortured and killed people, too. I'll be willing to bet that there's not a single religion on earth that hasn't resulted in the death of at least one innocent person.
The more important thing is that we should turn away from the inherent violence in our religions, discard that history and those verses, and make our religions better than our ancestors did.

You know whether something is good by the effect it has on people's lives. I know some fantastic Muslims, and some really nasty ones. Likewise people with other religions. The problem is that it's difficult to tell whether it comes from their religion or despite their religion.
What I have noticed with Islamic fanatics is that the more they go into it, the nastier they become. Maybe this says something about the people who draw them into their fanaticism, & these folks are't true muslims at all, but I can compare this to other religious fanatics e.g. Buddhists, hippies etc, all of whom seem to get lovelier as they get into their religion. I know which I'd prefer to be with.
So on the whole, I'll judge Islam not by hearsay, but by its effects on people. So far, what I've seen isn't good. If you want good things said about Islam, then Islam has got to disown it's fanatical adherents who get it bad publicity & it has to show its real effect is to make people good to have around. This may take some years, till then Islam is definitely on my 'reject' list.

Very nice story; but today in many Islamic countries; women are scared to report a rape; so you now understand just why some people hate Islam. People has a right to hate and fear a religion where women do not have a voice.
Of course, the prophet Mohammad never taught that women should be treated like dogs but today, wicked men has created their own submissive laws for women only.
I don't think people hate Islam; I think some people fear Islam; and unless we prove otherwise, they are entitled to their fears.

I learned about Islam and I think it's a wonderful religion indeed!
But c'mon! Be converted or die? No one could accept it in the modern world.
P.S: Well, this happened a long ago but if Arabs are not forced to follow the religion anymore, I'm glad that Islam has many improvements

The thing is you believe in story's to much, open your eyes to see the truth, no it's not all Muslims that kill, but lots do, Woman come second, and in today's world are treated badly, which they are stupid enough to accept. Holy books, all of them are written in the word of man, its suppose to be God's words, but man has put it in ways that he can use to control others, and gain power, and if you look at the hold the Islam faith has on people you can see proof of this. There is no more proof in the Koran, than the bible, what needs to be done, is for people to take their heads out of the sand and learn to have faith in God, not books, I believe that the truth is in the holy books, but you have to look very hard for it, remove the needs of man kind, and look for the words of God, they are still there.

Gee i wonder...could it be because of the islamic radicals we see on the news who blow up busses?? Or how about the fact that the 9/11 terrorists were muslims and thought that if they destroyed and killed americans they could go to paradise? Or what about the islamic nation of Iran which wants to completely annialate Israel and just recently held a conference about how the holocaust was a hoax? Muslims are the only large religious group doing these insane things.

I wouldn't go so far as hate, but I am suspicious of it.
I could give a variety of grounds, but let me just focus on one. You say: "We welcome people to the religion but don't force it... Loads of people I know converted by choice."
Fine. But I suspect there is not reciprocity in this. Am I free to go to any islamic country and proclaim my beliefs, and encourage, invite, persuade people to leave Islam?
Is leaving Islam as free a thing as joining it is?
See this Islamic article: (URL)
"That is why the Muslim jurists are unanimous that apostates must be punished... The majority of them, including the four main schools of jurisprudence... agree that apostates must be executed."
There seems to be a reasonable request for understanding and tolerance of Islam. But if this doesn't extend to Islam offering the same to other faiths and none, how can it be?

In your example the man who raped the woman was ordered to be stoned to death. In real life,in Iran, when a young girl is raped by a man in his car the man was not punished but the girl was punished for being alone with a man in a car. Explain.
