I have a chocolate lab too, and let me tell you at first I didnt notice it much (she's only 10 months old), but god there is hair every where, for a dog who has short hair you would think it wouldnt be bad, but htey do shed ALOT!!!! I seen people said try changing foods , I have to feed mine a precsription diet, and plus she has been on other foods, we only feed her the best, and nothing changed, it' s just their nature!! But aren't they the best dogs ever!!

I assume the term "malting" refers to your dog shedding. If your dogs shedding bothers you, I'm afraid I have some very bad news for you. I have owned many labs, a German Shepherd, border collies, currently have a Chow, etc. and all dogs shed all year round! (Except for poodles and labradoodles, but you get the idea.) The best thing you can do is to buy a really good dog grooming brush and brush him/her once a day. I have two long-furred dogs at the moment and I ended up getting 2 brushes so I can brush them a lot quicker. (The Chow doesn't like sitting still to get brushed - he would rather be causing trouble somewhere!) :) If you shave your dogs fur, they will still shed just as much. The only difference is the fur that is shed will be shorter. There's really nothing you can do about the shedding but it's typically the worst for about a month in the spring (getting rid of the winter coat) and the fall (getting their winter coat). Good luck.

I have a 12 1/2 year old Chocolate lab - This dog sheds more than ANY dog I've ever owned (In fact, I think his shedding exceeds what all of my other dogs in life have shed combined!).

It's totally normal for the breed, in fact, it's the #1 complaint about Chocolate labs!

Dogs don't moult, and they certainly don't' malt'. They constantly shed their coat, and depending on the dog the more it is noticed. My dog is a long haired Border Collie and you could knit several jumpers with the amount of hair he sheds in a year.

We have a female Rottweiler, and she sheds so much, it seems as though she is constantly blowing her coat. Maybe your dog just sheds profusely? That seems to be the case in our dog, like you said, we brush her often, and she has no bald spots, just the INSANE amount of hair. We could literally sweep up enough dog fur to make a sweater every few days. *sigh* Good luck!

Usually, that's too long for me. I think it depends on the guy as well as his face though. Certain guys can easily pull off long hair and other folks can't.

That's the problem, with Labradors LOL

I thought wisely, when i chose a pet dog... I have a Daschund (sausage dog).. they don't moult.

If you are concerned, take your dog along to the Vet...

Also... get a more powerful vacuum cleaner, to vacuum up those dog hairs LOL

I have a black labrador dog who is also constantly moulting and have learned to live with it and bought a really good vacuum cleaner!!
Is your house too hot though?
Could it be an allergy?

She could have a skin condition I had a sharpei and he has a skin condition similar to that. She could also be allergic to the shampoo but usually short haired dogs shed ALOT my walker hound still sheds now and it's wintertime.

do you have central heating or does the dog lay near a fire this can cause her to moult, i had German Shepard we had gas fire she loved it in winter but laid right by it as much as possible then she started to shed like mad, we took her to vet as was worried and that is what they told us keep her away from fire or radiators as they are constantly warm their bodies think it is hotter weather so they shed
