I get easily embarrassed, and because I get easily embarrassed is I know my face is getting extremely red and everybody is looking at me funny. I have had this problem ever since elementary school, and I'm a junior in high school now and its worse now more than ever. It usually happens when I get called on in class, and it ALWAYS happens whenever I have to go infront of the class and present something. I know it gets red when I feel my face get hot, then it eventually throbs, its almost like I can really feel the blood pumping faster and faster into my face. My arms and ears get just as red too. I think that maybe it could just be that I'm so easy to embarrass that it's rediculous, or that someone goes through the same thing and it could possibly be a medical condition. If anyone might have an answer, that would be great.

Blushing like this is not uncommon. It can be annoying but there is not a lot you can do. Drugs like clonidine can help but they have lots of side effects, and being so young I'd look at these sorts of drugs as a last resort.

The ESFB Message Board is a good place to hang out to learn more.

Good Luck !

Your condition may be caused by an imbalance in essential fatty acids and other nutrients in your diet. I would suggest you try a quality multi-vitamin/mineral supplement and a high quality fish oil supplement. You may need to find a good nutrition-oriented healthcare provider to help you get quality supplements - do not waste your money and efforts with the stuff at the supermarket/drug stores. You may also be able to find quality supplements at your local healthfood store.

You may need to take a high dose of the fish oils for several months to normalize your body levels with the needed essential fatty acids. Do not expect supplements to cure your symptoms immediately (like drugs) because it takes time for nutrients to normalize your body's biochemistry.

Fish oils from Nordic Naturals or Carlson Labs are an excellent choice. Multi-vitamin supplements from Pure Encapsulations or Thorne Research are also recommended. These brands are regularly used by nutritionally trained healthcare providers. You can order these products from a wonderful mail-order company called "NEEDS" at 1-800-634-1380.

For many years, I experienced the same symptoms (and emotional distress they create) that you describe. There is a very good chance my suggestions will help you, just as they helped me.

Best wishes and good luck.

P.S. Two other possibilities for your symptoms are: 1) food allergies/intolerances and 2) Celiac Disease (gluten-sensitive enteropathy). If 6 months of my above recommendations do not help you, then you may want to find a nutrition oriented professional to help you evaluate these additional issues.
