You can ship them as air cargo for about $150 each. You will have to have someone take them to the airport after you arrive in Chicago. There are companies that will take care of everything for you.

Good luck what ever you do. I know how you feel. I turned down a job overseas because I could not take my two fur children with me.

When we traveled from Germany to the US, our cats were sent via the airlines and we had a friend hold them until we were in the states and then had them shipped. Then we picked them up at the destination.
This is more expensive than the additional fee for carrying a pet on a flight (of course you have to buy your own ticket!). This might be an option you can consider.
Also look on yahoo for a cat breeders/cat show group. These people often ship cats for breeding and would know reliable shippers and methods.

Post on your local Craiglist in the Pets Community to see if someone is flying to Chicago and is willing to take your cat with them (either for a fee or for free). You might even offer a cat lover a free flight to Chicago if they take your cat.
Only certain airlines allow cats in the cabin, and they allow only a certain number per flight. I know JetBlue allows cats.

I did basically the same thing, moving from Texas to the east coast with my two cats and they were fine. One thing I do want to stress though. If you are not going to have your cats in carriers while you're driving, which is really recommended anyway for their own safety.... but, if you do decide to let them out for awhile because of the length of the trip... make absolutely certain they are secure before opening any outside doors when you come to a rest stop. We had a Penske truck also and had one cat in the back and had him in a huge crated off area, probably a quarter of the truck, where he was safe and couldn't hurt himself and a bunch of blankets and other soft stuff (mostly my clothes that STILL have his fur all over them!!! for him to lay on). He had a litter box and food and water back with him and when we stopped every couple hours, we'd put the other cat, who rode up front with my husband and myself, in the back so she could get food, water and access to the litter box. I don't think either cat ate or used the litter box for the entire trip though. Ours lasted about a day and a half.. We drove straight through. I imagine you'll be stopping for a night, which will be better and they can have a night to rest and relax and be calm in a hotel room. We just wanted to get home so we ended up not stopping. My cats are always fine in the car. I've made sure of that with all my animals from the time the were kittens/puppies so they didn't associate the car with just going to the vet and get all stressed out going for rides so mine are always laid back in the car or going for rides. Best of luck to you on your move and with your cats!!!!

Get them shipped on a plane. Call your local airline and ask for rates. You can get a personal limo/cab service to drive them to the airport and take them to the airline desk to put them on the plane.

Do you have friends or family that could help you provide transportation? I'm sure someone would be willing to help. If not, you might call your vet for an idea if there is anyone who would transport them for a fee.
Your vet would be able to help you out with this one, I'm sure.
