Chances are NO. They only way you get a "spanking new" rifle is when the weapon is completely deadlined (too many defects to be repairable or not cost effective). Your weapon would've had a previous operator as you would pass it onto another.

no, you don't. Although I was in the army I don't ever think once I used a new rifle. For the most part the weapons you get issued are for a limited period of time (the time you are at the range ect). If you get deployed you get issued a weapon for your deployment term. They will then get turned in and cleaned/reworked and issued to the next person in line. When you are in the reserves you do get issued a weapon for your whole time in the reserves , but half the time those are M16A1 versions and not the new ones lol. Although that didn't bother me as my feelings are that the A1 is a superior version than the A2.

Usually not. You are issued a weapon in boot camp, sometimes you and that weapon stay together and sometimes not.
As a newly minted Marine, in the fifties, I was issued a vintage M-1 Garand that had a serial number so low, that it was likely one of the first such rifles issued during WWII. The bluing was pretty much worn away, but the damn thing was accurate as hell! That weapon and I stayed together until the Corps began issuing M-14's in the pre-Nam era.
I doubt that much has changed regarding the issuance of weapons. It was fairly efficient then, so why change!

99% of the time you get a used rifle. M16 or M4. Most new weapons go to soldiers fighting overseas.
