Wow what a bunch of nimrods. I asked a question to help me understand an issue I am going through and the morons got through again. Although there were a few people who understood the question. I thank you.

Of course they are wrong, I just hope somebody opens their eyes to the truth.

I've already factored that into my worldview. I only support the side with the most evidence, but I never claim to know 100% truth (although many believers do, based on an ancient book). There is no evidence that god exists; there is, however, evidence that every previous religion that believed god(s) existed was wrong.

What makes your religion so special as compared to say Greek mythology?

I hope you're not suggesting the Jewish or Christian faiths, because, if I'm wrong, then God is an angry, selfish, vengeful, and violent deity. I would condemn those traits in a person and I condemn them in any god you claim.

And if I'm wrong, then so is everyone who does not follow your particular religion, and this includes more groups than just atheists. You call us morons and nimrods but it seems like you haven't thought about this at all, or you wouldn't need to ask this question.

Hm. What if I'm wrong. Good question. What if god does come back...and saves those who worshiped him and let's all the rest of us (we atheists) burn in an eternal hell. Hm...Oh well? I believe what I believe. You and I both are taking a gamble in our beliefs.

What if you're wrong? What if you wasted every Sunday morning going to church for nothing? What if...every day you feared (oh, wait, I mean loved) god and it turns out that he doesn't even exist. How would your life have been different without whatever supreme being and book, whether it be the torah, the bible, or the koran (spelling?). Those pages were written by humans to make some structure in society...to the point where they could control humanity's evil nature. What if that were true? I'm not saying that I'm atheist because I'm afraid of being wrong. I'm atheist because I believe that there is no way that all of that--the bible...god...--is true.

I compromise with anyone who believes in god because I know that it's a big part of life...They need something to believe in so they feel that they have some purpose in life. I do not try to shove my beliefs at them--it would be like throwing water on a record player.

I hope I'm not a moron.

Well, the answer kind of depends on who's right. If atheists are wrong, who else is with us? Christians? Jews? Muslims? Each have their own ideas about the end of the world and what happens to the soul after death. Thing is, if any one group is right (including atheists), then every other group would be wrong, wouldn't it? So it's just a case of which path you want to follow. If we're wrong, we'll suffer whatever torments the god that turns out to be real sees fit for us, along with every other poor sod who wasn't on it's side. If we're right - you're all just wormfood, the same as us. If we can be good human beings while we're here and have some fun, that's got to be a good start, no?

Well, then I hope youre right and that your God is truly all loving. Because if he casts me into Hell for nothing more than living a good life yet failing to beleive in him, then he isnt all loving or compassionate. He is just a big bully at that point. And I would be happy not to be around such a huge egomaniac for eternity.

How about you? What are you gonna do if you find out youre wrong and Zeus is the only true God? Zeus isnt so forgiving ya know.....

Ah, Pascal's Wager...again.

What if, when YOU die, you wake and find yourself before a tribunal of Egyptian gods, and jackal-headed Anubis steps forward, rips your heart from your chest, and casts it upon a pair of scales, weighing it against a white feather? How will you respond when he demands to know why you never sacrificed or prayed to the gods of ancient Egypt?

That's just as likely to happen as an atheist discovering himself before God's judgment seat. By your logic, one should worship and sacrifice to ALL the gods, goddesses, and spirits ever conceived by the mind of man throughout history--JUST IN CASE! And even that won't be completely safe. What if every religion there's ever been are wrong?

You believe what you believe. You count your prayer beads, grovel on your knees, and look for demons behind every bush. That's your choice. But I choose not to live in fear. I prefer to try to live a moral, useful, and fulfilling life. If I'm successful, I might just contribute something good to the world, or at least to my family and community. In any case, I will have made the best use of the precious time I had without wasting any of it running from black cats and searching for wood to knock on.

Just one final point. No JUST god would sentence his creation to eternal suffering simply for being unable to believe unbelievable things. Eternal suffering is not a just punishment for any crime, however heinous, and certainly not for the "crime" of using the brain given to us to come to the logical conclusion that your religion is nothing but mythology wrapped in superstition. And if God exists but is unjust, then we're all screwed.

I'll answer honestly.

If I am wrong, I will face my "maker". That maker may be Jesus, but I think that is extremely, extremely unlikely.

Whoever that maker is, I trust that he would respect my failure to have belief in the absence of evidence. If God knows how to reach every person, he will do it. Until that time I have no belief (and find it unlikely that will every change.

Now let me ask you, what if you are wrong? What if there is no God? You will have wasted much of your life, perhaps suspended some kinds of happiness, on a non-existent being.

Or what if there is a god, but it is not YOUR God (probably Jesus)? Since there are thousands of deities, your belief in one is only slightly better odds than my belief in zero.

what if atheists are right?
what if mormons are right?
what if hindus are right?

who really cares.

we could play the 'what if' game with any religion. if the bible is true, then everyone who doesnt believe is better off anyway.

personally it would be equal to hell to be in a place with no free will (no sin/no sadness = no free will), where we will worship god for eternity, this being the same god that sent our loved ones to hell to be tortured for all eternity.

what about christians. if you guys are wrong, you spent your only life you had wasting away worrying about every deed you ever do and being punished for it. id rather live my now.

We have all heard Pascal's Wager a few times. I have responded to this question at length several times if you want to see the whole answer. But the answer is that I don't worry about it any more than you do about being wrong about Amun-Ra

We aren't so it isn't important.

If we were wrong, I would hope that this supposed supreme being isn't the vane, vindictive creature you have always portrayed it as being. Hopefully it will have a sense of humor and praise us for not being shallow enough to be sucked into religion on the flimsy amount of proof it did not provide.

Wrong about what? Who are you addressing with your singular noun, all of us or just one of us? Is this another Pascal's Wager, because I refuse to worship a narcissistic God who demands my obedience and is willing to cast me into hell for no other reason than failing to believe in him and stroke his ego. I can't fake my belief either, and if I did he would surely see through my deception, seeing as how he's omniscient and all, then it would be off to hell for me anyway! NO, NO, NO! I refuse to be submissive to such a monster's will! I can live a healty, moral live without him thank you very much.
