Cindy,
Just why might you want to use a dietary suppplement to lose weight when there is a perfectly good, perfectly safe, and well-tested way to lose weight that people have been using for centuries?
Eat less and move more.
Now, let me guess--you want a supplement because you don't want to change your lifestyle, your eating habits, right? But isn't it your lifestyle and eating habits that have you wanting to lose weight? so what needs to change, do you think?
Supplements are a crap shoot, really. Since they are "supplements" (perhaps it's different in the UK) they are not as well-regulated as are foods. You don't always know what you're getting, it's up to you to know how much of it to use for how long, and the labels don't always tell you what interactions or side effects they are likely to have.
While eating less and moving more have only positive side effects, as long as what you eat is healthful.
You don't say how much yweight you want to lose, but you can very easily lose a pound a week, without a serious change in your eating habits or lifestyle. You'll need to change some, and the changes that you make will need to be deliberate and permanent, but you won't have to change much.
All you'll have to do is to burn off 500 more calories a day than you eat. that's not hard to do.
What do you eat, especially between meals? Cut out those snacks, don't do what nutritional researchers call "compensatory overfeeding," and then jog (you don't even have to run hard) for 30-45 minutes a day (and you don't even have to do it all in one go), and you'll lose weight. Without supplements, which only mask the problem, they don't solve it.
Now, why do you want to lose weight? that may seem like an obvious question, but it really isn't. We generally want to lose weight for the wrong reason: we do it to lose weight.
Duh?
Not quite. It's the wrong reason, because as soon as you lose the weight you want to lose, you'll go right back to doing what you did that made you need to lose weight to begin with. It happens all the time, and it's what keeps the weight-loss industry rolling in our money.
You need to change the way you eat because it's good for you and it'll make you feel better.
You just have to change what you're doing that makes you gain weight. that means eat less and move more. Go to a gym, use a treadmill, buy a good pair of running shoes and hit the street or the track or the trail. Eat vegetables instead of sugar (ever have green peas with dill for dessert instead of ice cream? Why not? Just because you're not used to it doesn't mean you couldn't be, nor does it mean that you shouldn't do it). Do something different. IF you think about it the right way, it's an adventure.
What did G. K. Chesterton say,"An inconvenience is an adventure wrongly considered. An adventure is an inconvenience rightly considered"? If you look at your new lifestyle the right way, if you look at running and eating less but better the right way, you'll see an adventure that will take toyou to places you've never been but are fun to be. You'll like the results, and that will make the effort worthwhile. Do it for three months, and you'll be so used to it that you'll keep doing it, and you won' t care about supplements because you'll be having too much fun living life the right way.

There are all kinds of claims about diet aids to help one lose weight, such as green tea, chromium piclonate, etc. None of them have been proven to work. Exercise and good nutrition, low fat and carbs, with calcium is proven to help one lose weight and be in better health.

I really like using hydroxycut, it always helps me lean down before rugby season starts. It only works though if you go to the gym and workout, you can not just take the pills and expect to lose weight.
