Gas powered lawn mowers are definitely polluters, like all gas engines.

Electric lawn mowers pollute indirectly, because of the way electricity is produced, but in time electricity will be more and more environment friendly, so we must encourage it.
We need power to move our machines and we don't have too many options.

From the other point of view: Do lawn mowers destroy nature because the interfere with it, not allowing the grass to grow the natural way?

I say NO, because people would not allow nature to grow wild around their houses, or in their cities. So the other option is concrete. Not so environmental friendly, isn't it?
So taming nature is a better option than destroying it. From two bad things choose the small one.

I am going to go against the 'grain' and suggest that lawnmowers are environmentally friendly. The basis for this supposition is that lawnmowers are only needed if there are lawns. Lawns are large areas of very dense grass that would not likely exist 'naturally'. These dense areas of grass produce lots of oxygen, consume lots of CO2, and probably detoxify/cleanse many pollutants from the air. These are good things. Because lawnmowers enable the existence of these eco-friendly lawns, it may be that lawnmowers are environmentally 'friendly'.

This might be a good subject for a quality research study.

Best wishes and good luck.

Yes they are. - including gas powered AND electric lawn mowers. Electric lawn mowers must be charged, and much of the electricity that is used to charge these lawn mowers comes from the burning of coal, oil, gas, etc.
