First, they were doing business INSIDE the Temple, a place sanctified by God as Holy, and Jesus was offended and full of righteous anger. He drove them out. One man could not drive off a group of people and animals if He was annoyed. It had to have been a fearsome rage.
If you continue reading in John verse 21 reveals that he was speaking of the Temple of his body. He was torn down (crucified and killed on Friday immediatly before night fall) and he rebuilt in 3 days (conquered death and rose on Sunday at dawn.) He was prophesising His death and ressurection.
Hope this helps

(John 2:19) . . .In answer Jesus said to them: “Break down this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”
Jesus did not say He would tear down the temple; it would be the Jews that destroy it.
Jesus was talking about himself. The Jews were going to kill him (who represents the temple of God) and he would be resurrected in three days (which means the restoring of the temple).
The temple is the representation of the true worship to God.

He was referring, prophetically, to his own body as the temple of the living God.
It was torn down when he was crucified, and after three days, Jesus was resurrected and received a new, spiritual body.

He was ticked because the moneychangers were conducting business IN the temple, an act of desecration, according to the morals of the time.

He was talking about himself - Think about how our bodies are referred to as temples, and how Jesus resurrected after three days.
