You should get a dog that you will be able to properly take care of. A pet is a big responsibility and you should know that going into this. Will you be gone for a long time everyday leaving the dog all alone? Will you take the dog to the vet if he gets sick even if it's expensive? Will you feed him and give him fresh water everyday? Take him for walks so he gets enough exercise? Will you be patient with him when he is a puppy and chewing everything and getting into lots of trouble? Will you love him and play with him everyday? If you can say yes to all the questions then you are ready for a pet. The breed doesn't matter as long as you are patient when they make mistakes and love them a lot. I recommend you take him to puppy training class it really pays off. You can go to Petsmart they have a great and inexpensive program. You'll be glad that you did. And if you want to get a real special dog adopt a dog from a dog shelter. Good luck. Janet

If you mean Border Collie then be prepared to spend lots of time working on obedience. If you don't then he'll be a little terror.
My Border Collie would be a world traveler and infamous jumper and scratcher if he hadn't been sent to puppy boot camp.
My advice is get whatever breed you have your heart set on because a dog is a lifetime partner. (You can't just take him back if he turns out to be different from what you were wanting.)

Neither, if you want to get a good dog, I'd get either a German Shepherd, which is a protection dog. Or a golden retriever, which is a watch dog and a helping dog. A collie is a good dog, but a havenaese is not bred right. I truly hope you take my advice, I have three dogs of my own.

How about a sheltie? Looks like a miniature collie, but isn't in the same family. We loved ours!

get a collie, but they do shed and get kind of big. weiner dogs, as with most small dogs are really yappy and stuff---my fiance's parents have 2 of them and they are so spoiled and bark all the time. his parents have trained them to beg for food and they are not social and they bite, but i guess that depends on the owner. but i think a lot of small dogs are like that. i have a golden retriever and i love her. well, she is actually mine and my fiances. she is calm, loving, easy to train, and loves people and other animals. she can he really hyper at times, she is big, and she sheds----those are the downsides of owning a big dog with long hair. but i still prefer her over a weiner dog. i think that they are ugly.
