I have two cats with 2 litter boxes. Cats can be finicky and are very terrritorial each leave their own scents in and around the litter box to tell another cat this is my box , my area. I had one cat for about a year and then got a second cat. Suddenly the first cat was pooping outside the box. Since I put 2 litter boxes in their space the problem is solved. Just make sure you scoop it out and mix up the litter once in the morning and once at night. Your full grown cat feels violated and is feeling stressed from the kitten . Eventually it will adjust to a new kitten in the house. When the kitten gets bigger they will decide who is first in the pecking order and who is second. Good Luck!

Your grown cat is letting you know its not to thrilled with the new arrival. Try and clean out the box right after the kitten uses it and mix some baking soda in with the litter to help absorb the kittens smell. You might just have to get two boxes. Cats are pretty touchy when it comes to their litter boxes. Especially since your cat isnt used to having anyone buy him or her in the house.

My cats have shared the litter box before, but sometimes they would disturb each other at the box by swatting each other, and that would make one of them "pinch it" and come back to try again later. You might try setting out a second litter box, or give the shy cat some privacy when it needs the cat box.

the cat won't use the same litter box because it feels threatened buy the kitten. It is a territorial thing. Get another litter box that what we did when our cat had kittens.

They will eventually. But cats can be picky. Try two litter boxes for a while and then reduce to one. I once read that you should have a litter box for each cat... and a spare. OK I drew the line on the spare but we have 2 cats and 2 litter boxes.
It seems strange but sometimes they separate the boxes based on use... one for their poop and the other for the urine. Then all of the sudden it is anything goes.

Get a second litter box. Some cats are strange about that. I have 6 cats and two litter boxes. They have split them up - 3 use one and 3 use the other. Funny critters.

Hi the reason that your cats wont use the same is because the reason cats bury their business is to hide the scent and it's also like a territorial thing so just use two litter boxes good luck.

Well, would you like it if some stranger came into your house and started pooing in your toilet (and you can't flush)? The older cat doesn't care for it either. Get a 2nd litter box and clean both daily, eventually they'll get used to each other and it won't be so much of an issue.

Your full-grown cat naturally resents the intrusion of the kitten and should not be expected to "share" anything - beds, food bowls, litterboxes etc.
Get a couple more boxes right away. You don't want this problem with your older cat!

She might not want to go in the litter box because she does not know your new cat at all and is scared to go in. Maybe if you get a sperate little box and when she gets to know the other cat she might go back to the other one. Just so you know that happened with me to and I did that. Good Luck!
