Wash it in hot water a couple of times and keep tying it on and off to wear it in where it needs to be soft the most so it doesn't come undone so easy.
I still see that some people believe in that it's disrespectful to wash your belt and that's okay. To each their own.
I used to believe that washing your belt is disrepectful and that your washing away your Ki and years of training until I went to Tokyo to train at the Hombu Dojo. My sponser (7th Dan Shihan in Aikido) had his wife wash my gi and BELT! That's right the Japanese were the one's washing my belt! Of course I freaked out and asked "Why did you wash my belt?". The answer was simple "It was very dirty and smelly!". Hell if the Shihan who spent more than 35yrs training daily is washing his belt then so will I.
Then when I started BJJ there was an incident where a student kept fixating on how long it would take for a black belt. Carlos Valente (6th Degree under Rickson Gracie) got mad and took off his black belt and gave it to the student. Then he went in his office and grabbed a couple of black belts and asked anyone else if they wanted one? He then put on a white belt. He says "So tell me what has changed besides the color of our belts?" He then quotes Royce Gracie, "A belt just covers two inches of your a*s*s, you have to cover the rest!". He wore that white belt for over a week without problems. The student finally had to beg Professor Valente to take his black belt back.

A Godan gave me this advice about softening my belt, so that you can tie it reasonably well.
Loop the belt around an immovable object, a pipe or small pole, I used a large table leg. Twist. And twist. And twist. Once you have gone as far as you can, start twisting the other way and go as far as you can in the other direction.
This will help break up the sizing in the fabric and loosen the tightness enough that you should be able to tie it well.

I can't believe how many people suggest that you wash your belt.
Never wash your belt.
My Black Belt looked like new because I preferred to train in my white belt. My white belt has unraveled and is turning black.
If you can't break your belt in naturally, you should not have a belt.

Hello,
Never wash your M/A belt on matter what color it is, that will rune it for sure, don't believe me just call your local M/A supplier.
Twist it turn it and put it in knots, then repeat over and over again. Roll it up, fold it up then twist it over and over again, ware it around the house, don't let it out of your hand, wear it to bed if you must.
JUST DO NOT PUT THAT KARATE BELT IN THE WASH MACHINE!
Good luck at that Tournament..Kick some BUTT!

Please consider that your belt should age naturally. Do not put so much concern on how you look but rather how you perform.
Your mind seems to be in the wrong place for this competition as you are worrying about your belt looks and feels.
Please take a moment to meditate, re-find your path.
Rank means nothing, it is just a way of organizing students within a school.

Honestly, I think the blonde may make it look a bit off and if anything not 'soft' (maybe a darker shade like a brown or very dark red would make it look softer) but if you really want to go with the blonde steaks I'd go with the second picture (The one with Rhianna in it) it's pretty cool and may look nice in the end.

why the heck do u want a new belt anyway. worn belts are way more intimidating then new ones anda lot more comfortable. plus washing ur belt is disrespectful u should know that already. but i f u realy have to wear it in wear it a lot and beat it up. but dont wash it cause it will be noticable. exspecialy if it has leters in it it will tear the embroidery out sometimes if theres a loose thread.
