my drug is 'AZTREONAM' and when it's injected i get a most unplesant taste in my mouth? why is this? how do i get this taste in my mouth so quickly?

I don't know the mechanism of this side-effect, but it is recognised as a side-effect of this drug. As the drug is given IV it gets into your system straight away. If, for example, a component of the drug gets from the bloodstream into the saliva very quickly, that would be one way. I wouldn't expect you to be on this treatment long-term, so try having something to eat or drink during/after the injection. If you can't bear this side-effect, tell the person treating you, but they'll probably tell you that this is the best drug for your condition and they can't change it. It's probably not much consolation, but there are much worse side-effects out there! Get well soon.

I noticed this effect when having injections of anaesthetic when having operations. The only thing I can think of is that the blood it goes into is carried around the body, including the tongue and the drugs will seep into all the tissues they come into contact with, to some extent. This will include tissues in the tongue, including the taste buds.

However it does it, it's rather unpleasant!
