Not ALL pitbulls should be put down, but pitbull owners that allow their dogs to be agressive, or train them to fight or attack should be put down!

I believe that every dog has a good and bad side. Pitbulls are often mistreated and therefore have vicious personalities. However, i have known lovely pitbulls that are gentle with children and strangers alike all because the owner treated them right. Any dog that has teeth can maul someone, it depends on tehir upbringing, saying that they should all be put down is similar to suggesting that every Iraqi should be killed as "they are all terrorists". (which isn't the case, there a people in that race too that are just like you and I only they speak a different language. Think about things before you say them, what if it was your arm the lethal injection was going into....?

I'm not sure if you like pit bulls or not since you state that you feel that putting down pit bulls is sick and cruel.
If you cared about pit bulls at all you WOULDN'T post a question such as this. People that bring more and more attention to a single ISOLATED act such as a pit bull "mauling" just add to the problem.
ANY dog that "mauls" someone needs to be evaluated and the necessary action taken. What DOES NOT need to be done is to bring attention to the breed of the dog JUST BECAUSE IT IS A PIT BULL. ANY dog is capable of biting and maiming someone, not just the Pit bull.
I am sure there are PLENTY of dog maulings that occur with other breeds although people just like to bring the pit bull up because it is such a controversial breed.
NOT ALL PIT BULLS ARE MEAN!!!
NOT ALL PIT BULLS ATTACK PEOPLE!!!
NOT ALL PIT BULLS TURN!!!
NOT ALL PIT BULLS BITE!!!

Yeah I'd agree with you most of the time on this one.
But you have to understand that Pitbulls are unique they are totally agressive dogs that should never have been domesticated and certaintly should never be family pets. Thats why it is illegal to have one in the UK.
You see pitbulls were bred for hunting they are a cross between an american bull dog and a staffordshire bull terrier. They have a jaw which "locks" when they bite which is so their prey can't get away but this also means that they can't let go even if they want to and that a person can't drag them from what they are attacking. This lock jaw is a common aspect of most bull terriers.
I think that its important to remember that this is an animal we are talking about, they may be cute and real family members for many but at the end of the day they are dogs not people. So they are unpredictable and any dog even the fluffiest could attack a person. Its important to remember this.
Personally, the truly sick and cruel thing about this is the Uncle that owned the type of dog that is known to be capable of this sort of stuff!
Also consider what would you do with the dog if you didn't kill it? It has murdered a person and been known to attack other dogs in the past. Where do you suggest this dog go? Who do you think should have to look after it/pay for its food/vets? What if it killed again?
Also have you ever been to a dog rescue centre? Most of the places are inundated with dogs that ARE good family pets and decent acting dogs. Why would any person get a dog that is known to be agressive and a risk to people/other dogs when there are millions of nice dogs out there that need good homes?
Also consider the risk of the dog to innocent bystanders, there are so many reports of agressive dogs that have bad owners and their dogs have torn other peoples dogs apart in front of their owners? Isn't that sick and cruel? To have to watch your dog get killed because of somebody else's bad dog?
What your suggesting would mean that people alone/other dogs would not be able to walk down the street for the fear that they could get attacked. I think its so silly to get sentimental like this when people's mental health and lives are at risk. Think of what the parents of the girl are going through right now.
Also; on the point every one seems to be making that pit bulls are not agressive its down to the trainer. I say why get a dog that is CAPABLE of agreesion and attacking when they are dogs out there that are not even capable of such agression, who heard of the labrador that attacked and killed a dog/person? But who had read about a rotti that has in the papers? Its foolish to deny the fact that certain breeds of dog have certain personality traits like golden retrievers tend to be dosile where are staffis tend to be agressive. Yes I agree alot is to do with the owner but why but a dog that has to be trained NOT to be agressive in the first place?

I agree that an aggressive dog should be taken care of in a mature manner, but I do not agree to lumping every dog of the same or simliar breed into the "agressive and dangerous to society" category just because a few dogs of the same breed have attacked a human being or other dog...
I agree it's sick and cruel to take perfectly normal, non-aggressive, perfect house pets and euthanize them, and steal them from their owners, because they possess traits of a certain breed, or are of a certain breed.

I hate ppl like you. You hear 1 bad story and thimk WOW pit bulls are sooo dangerous. IT IS NOT THE DOG, it is the un-responsible owners who buy dogs from puppy mills and don't reserch and find a good breeder or a loving dog. They do not train their dogs and don't give them enough excersise, they leave their dogs off leash and the dogs are not socialized because they are to lazy! You can not generlize all pitbulls with a few bad ones. People want to be macho and cool so they buy a dog and never train them to be un-agressive! My friend has a pit bull rottweiler mix who is very loving and loyal because she socialized him and taught him aggresion was not accetable! GOD you know how many people have done cruel things like kill thousands of people. If one irish person killed 100 people in cruel ways would you kill all irish people? NO so why is it ok to kill all pit bulls when there are more good then bad ones! different pit bulls have different personalities just like ppl. Pit bulls are great dogs when they have responsible, loving owners who don't buy them for cool reason's and leave them in the yard.

The 5 year old was killed the grandmother was mauled trying to break them apart. That breed is outlawed in Britain but not a mix which apparently this one was...
Dogs are animals they can and will turn without warning unless they are trained properly and then you still have one's that will turn around kill their owner in a car or at home.
Too many people will defend them but all animals will kill and provocation doesn't seem to be the basic issue.

Kill the deed not the breed!!!!!
People who think all pit bulls should be put down are ignorant!
They need to start punishing the people who are destroying these beautiful creatures and turning them into monsters. My dog is the most loving caring dog.... I have met poodles meaner than my dog!!
