Wow, I know that hurts!! I finally had to have my tonsils removed because of recurrent strep throat, but let me tell you I remember the PAIN and I feel for you.
Hope the following suggestions help.
1. Ibuprophen which is in many pain relievers with brand names like Motrin, Advil and store brands (just look for the active ingredients to say Ibuprophen.) You want this medications (unless, of course, you are allergic) because it is an anti-inflammatory, meaning that it will help reduce swelling, and part of the pain of strep throat is from the membranes being swollen.
2. Some people do find that cold things do help. If you are afraid of the "junk food" effect, then you can suck on ice cubes or they do make frozen pops out of 100% fruit juice. (or make your own: just put juice in ice trays)
3. Some people find that warm things feel better. Try hot tea with honey, warm lemonade, even coffee. Whatever makes your throat feel better right now. Also, what helped me most was hot salt water gargles. OOOH, they really did the trick!
4. I don't know where you are from, but here in the US we have a over the counter medication called Chloroseptic. It is a spray (or sometimes you can find it in a lozange) and its active ingredient numbs the throat. The taste isn't the best, but it's not too bad. And remember what's worse, bad taste or pain?
5. Sleep, sleep and more sleep. While you are asleep it doesn't hurt :)
Feel better very soon!!!!!

Eating cold things will not help a raw, sore throat. If possible, drink down hot liquids, try tea, soup, hot cocoa (the milk coats) or any other warm drink. Try some aspirin or pain killer and chloraseptic spray. Sit with a vaporizer for a while, if you don't have one, sit under a pot of boiling water with a towel over your head for a while to help the throat stay moist. When my throat is extremely sore sometimes my husband will give me a shot of whiskey to not only kill the bacteria in the throat, but to knock me out for a while so I can rest lol. While taking a shot of that is up to you, I would definitely stick to hot liquids. Feel better!

frozen treats always help me but they are not very nutritious. Ginger tea may numb the throat. I am sorry for your possible strep. I know it is painful. It will be better in a few days. I use to get them all the time.

Did they do the strep test? It does not take long to find out. I find it strange that they put you on antibiotics before they knew.
Try putting honey in the tea and see if that helps at all.

I know it hurts to swallow, but drinking fluids will eventually help. Drink cold water, tea and chicken soup. You may want to turn on a humidifier, as it will add moisture to the room making your throat feel better

I gargle with peroxide. I have found that it can get rid of strep on its own.
