Most times it is OK to remove certain items, like stereo, custom wheels, etc. provided you replace them with the original units. The total loss settlement is based on the condition and options on your car. If you settle with the adjuster BEFORE you remove these items he/she can demand their return when the car is picked up. You literally 'sell' the car to the insurance company so any equipment attached at time of the sale (settlement) is owned by the insurance company. Just get the OK before and this should pose no problems.

Until the insurance company is finished with your car as far as investigation wise you should not be removing anything or adjusting or changing the vehicle in anyway, as the insurance adjuster has to be able to see the car in its original form after the accident in order to make a correct assessment of the vehicle.

If it becomes an issue make a low offer on the wreck.

as long as the adjuster didn't see the car before you pulled the parts, there shouldn't be a problem.
