Great question, that's exactly what I tell my friends and people in my country (Ecuador, South America) my country is so catholic that is blinded by faith.
The different gods are created by humans, and it's a great strategy for power, it's like the law, make people fear something (going to hell) and they would obey certain rules in benefit of governments (law abiding citizens) or church (money and power).
Here in South America the indians adored The Sun, the earth, the wind, the different nature elements, but once the Spaniards came, they imported they idea of god, the european god and now people are accostumed to worship this european god without asking themselves if it's true.
When I asked one friend (extremely religious) this question, she literally said: "IT'S A SIN TO QUESTION THE EXISTENCE OF GOD" so it's like the dark ages, don't try to confuse us with the FACTS, hehe.
Great Question!!!

What I can come up with is that the Roman Gods were very involved in the day to day lives of the people, It is hard to keep up a belief in that, especially when the Gods haven't shown their faces in a while.
The Christian God has messengers and never has to show his face at all. This can go on forever as people are waiting for the end of the world to see God and when the end of the world happens and God doesn't show his face there will be no one to complain about it.

How do you know that the Roman Gods were not real?
Answer that and you will answer your own question.
I would say that the Christian God is as real as the Roman Gods and vice versa. The difference is that the Christian God is far more popular these days than say, Jupiter (Zeus?)

For me as a Pagan the Roman Gods are real, and I also believe that some of them get incarnated into a human body, However I do not acknowledge the Christian God because looking at the OT and NT both i have concluced he was an evil tyrant not worthy of worship or time.

I can't prove the Roman gods aren't real. They could be real. I just choose not to worship them.

the roman gods are real. duh.
lol fireball your response makes no sense. holy spirit doesnt convert people, people do. if the holy spirit did, and it existed, then people who had no ability to learn about christianity would know it in their heart and thus negating any point being missionary trips.
