If you primed wooden doors (bifold) to be painted, can you change your mind and remove the primer?

I don't know if it's possible because I admittedly know little about painting, but can you remove primer from a wooden door that has never been painted/stained before? I primed it thinking I'd paint the doors white, but I've been thinking about it and now I don't know if I made a mistake and I should go for a stain to enhance the look of the wood. Is it even possible to remove primer or should I just forget about it and go ahead and paint the doors? Thanks.

Primer IS paint, which you have already done. Sorry to be the bearer of the bad news.

Well, if you've only primed one door and changed your mind you may consider buying another one. If you try to strip the primer, the door isn't going to look new anyway. Also, you may take into account the molding around the door frame, if it's white, a stained door won't look good. If the molding is stained, a white door won't look good. Paint or stain the doors to keep the same look throughout your house...door frames, molding, and doors.

I've sanded off paint before, and primer seems a lot like paint to me. Sounds like a big project though...As for white doors, they may look nice, but they'll get dirty quickly.

Your choice...wish you luck! Perhaps go to Sherwin Williams. They've got the best paint out there on the market.

Primer has soaked into the wood. That;s the purpose of "primer". To seal the wood and prevent the finish paint from soaking in.

You could give it an "antique" appearance, over the primer.. Check with your paint supplier.

As Brian says - stripper is the way to go. If the project is indoors, and you're worried about the obnoxious smell that goes along with most strippers, there's a fairly new product called Soy-Gel - made from soy protein - that works well and hardly has an odor at all.
