I have one, he is a wonderful companion. He has a vocabulary of about 20 words/ phrases, and is generally pretty friendly with everyone. If you are interested there is a great website www.quakerparrots.com. The forum has tons of info. I would recommend learning as much as you can about the breed, and this website is a great place to start. Mattie Sue Athan also has a quaker parrot book that is great!
I have an umbrella cockatoo, and my quaker, and I would recommend a quaker and never a cockatoo. My quaker is adaptable, but he does require lots of time. They also require lots of fresh veggies, some fruit , and a quality pellet. Mine is only in his cage at night, and goes to work with me everyday. I recommend adopting one that needs a good forever home.

They have all the BIG parrot pluses, without all the minuses- in my book they are the perfect parrot in a small package!

I have owned a Quaker Parrot for four to five years. She is an adorable little bird with quite the vocabulary. She tends to pick up all the things the family and everyone in the household say or what noises they make. She currently can say Kiwi (her name), PrettyBird, Angel, Peekaboo, Step-Up. The most adorable thing she says is "What?!" whenever anyone calls for another person from far away. She can also do the wolf wistle and even mimic laughing. Quaker parrots are known for their vocabulary and intelligence.

Quakers have an easy diet- they can eat almost all fruits and veggies (there are some acceptions like peppers, and a few others) and seeds. Make sure to introduce the foods one at a time- maybe a new food no more than once a week to get their bodies used to it.

The one bad thing about my parrot is the fact that she only likes the person that mainly spends time with her. She is not friendly to strangers, especially men. I believe, however, that if you let the bird get used to seeing strangers, and try not to make the bird have a favorite, then it will be fine.

Good luck and I hope you find the perfect pet!

I have a quaker that is about 9 months old. It says a couple of things so far. whatcha doin?, give me kisses!, what, huh, no. But I am sure it will learn more in no time. It is adorable. :) I also own 3 medium sized parrots. I have to keep a close eye on them with the quaker. As they are much bigger. I bought my quaker at a pet store. Best of luck.
