Assuming CA levels go to 'normal' and tumors shrink, etc. will pain from cancer go away after chemotherapy is finished or does it always presist? I can't seem to find a good answer online to this one. Personal experiences are appreciated also.

Treatments cause pain, not cancer.

Cancerous tumors are not wrapped in nerve endings so "they" do not cause pain nor are they supposed to be painful. If you are having pain then you have something else going with or besides the cancer.

You can feel pain and discomfort from the treatments and yes, that will go away.

There is not a good answer online because no one wants to get sued over the truth. Doctors cannot tell you it will go away for "legal" reasons, plus, every patient is different and everyone responds differently to treatments. It is a big guessing game.

I have had cancer and my several in my family...I refused the treatments and then found found out I was misdiagnosed and would have suffered through the treatments for nothing. My father and mother-in-law had it they suffered through the treatments and that was their only source of pain...My grand father died from a tumor that could not be removed...it was at the base of the skull and the he opted to not be treated at the age of 84. He didn't have pain from the tumor either....

Generally speaking, as time goes on, and you have finished chemo or radiation treatment. Pain will slowly subside.

This would largely still depend on the type of the type cancer you have, what stage you are in, and the affected areas of the body.

There are MANY things you can do to relieve pain. I am currently at the end of my treatment, and I am on morphine drops (when I need) and also have 150 MG of Fentinil Patches on my arm (pain patch).

The Pain Patches basically relieve almost all of my body pain. When i take them off, I have a small amount of pain still. As time wears on, and my pain subsides, I can remove the patches.

If you are not using patches, I would say speak to your doctor.

The bottom line: If you are getting good medical attention, seeing the doctor regularly, and eating well, YES the pain WILL go away with time and more rest for your body.

The pain will NOT always persist.

BEST of luck to you!

"Cancer is not supposed to produce pain"????? I can't believe someone said this!!

Yes, treating the cancer and shrinking of the tumors usually alleviates cancer pain, and it's one of the best ways to treat pain. A lot of times even when a patient is terminal, they are given chemotherapy or radiation for local control just to ease the pain. Narcotics are good, too :)

It will Depend on the type of cancer involved. A majority of cancers don't always cause pain, but there may be other symptoms nausea, etc.

I have cancer of the colon and rectal cancer. No amount of pain killer short of what is required to put me unconscious will relieve the pain.

I always feel some degree of pain unless i'm medicated enough to put me out.
