At this point in your life, I recommend the following

1. Take an intro flight to see if you even like it... which you probably will. Go to the airport flight school and say you want to take an intro flight... it's that easy!

2. If you like it, getting books and reading about airplanes, weather, and basic aerodynamics will really help you. If your parents are supportive, have them buy you a basic private pilot kit which contains this material and aviation supplies. With few exceptions, rules, regulations, operations and airspace restrictions will not change much by the time you are 16. Study it all the time, but do not neglect your school work!

3. Go up once every few months, but NO more. Even if you mastered the airplane in 5 or 10 hours, it would be wasteful to fly so much this early in life since you are not able to solo until you are 16, and finally get the certificate when you are 17. You will forget everything you learn anyway, so just fly and enjoy it for now.

4. Work, work, work... unless your parents can afford to spend about $5000-$8000 on your training, depending on your learning habits and cost of instruction. Save your money until you have enough to finish, otherwise you end up getting close to the end, running out of money and forgetting a lot while you work for more money!

5. Get Microsoft Flight Simulator and a good joystick. Plan flights, interact with the avionics, which are pretty close to the real thing and fly as if you were in the air with your life depending on it. Adjust for wind and weather and you are halfway there. I use it to hone my skills when not in the air. Another reason to go up with an instructor every few months or so: You will learn the right way to fly and not develop bad habits on the flight simulator.

6. Get a scanner radio and listen to the aviation frequencies, which can be found on your local sectional (maps). Listen to the air traffic and learn how to talk on the radios... Practice out loud and don't be embarrassed. Radios are easy but most people fear them... don't be one of those people!

7. Don't worry so much about which airline, right now.

8. Tell all your friends you fly! Thrill them with stories!

9. Keep dreaming!

As a side note: I knew this 16 year old kid who was getting his license. He would take his friends up (with the instructor) and he would charge them for the ride! Sometimes he had money left over after paying the instructor/rental fees. The fun thing is that you can't charge when you are only a private pilot, but when the instructor was in the plane he did what he wanted! So the more friends you have, with money... the better chances you will offset some expenses! Just don't throw up while they sit in the back... otherwise they will laugh at you forever!

Schools: Just fly at your local airport. Go to a university with an aviation program. Doesn't matter which one. Join ROTC in college and shoot for a military pilot position.

Other options: Air traffic controllers make a lot of money. Do this and fly for fun... you will be able to afford it!

Good luck!

Have rich parents, and most any kid who has parents in the airlines is guarenteed a pilot job.

But if you don't have that, go to school, work really hard for not much money building flight time with any old jalopy you can get your hands on, and if you survive then you'll probably be a pretty good pilot and likely get a better job as long as you aren't crazy from living in Alaska flying fish in a 45 year old airplane.

Others will tell you other things, but that is pretty much a typical "airline success scenario"

Good luck

--Till then your best bet is Join the Civil Air Patrol as a Cadet. You'll love it and it will open a lot of doors for you as a kid wanting to fly.

Work EXTRA hard in high school get top grades. Go to college(some have Aviation dept that enable you to get your pilots certificate and all the ratings to make you ready for the ATP ) and get a degree in ANY thing other than Aviation. Then either join the military where you pilot training is on Uncle Sam or go to a Pilot School such as http://www.deltaconnectionacademy.com/
What you do NOW will go a long way to determine your tomorrow!
good luck with your dream!!

The training would mean little but if you wnt to learn to fly go for it. The way to an Air Force pilots position is attending The Air Force academy. Get in touch with your Congressman and you can get more info. Your parents should be able to help you with that. It will be several years, as you must graduate high school with good grades for a start. good luck

You will need to offer a well received education, that means that Right now you need to dedicate yourself to doing the absolute best you can at school, even in the subjects that don't seem important to you, because they will help developer your character, and enable you to think "outside the box" to handle problems much much better. While you are continuing your education, read all the magazines you can get your hands on, you'll be subconsciously learning a lot about flying and will likely learn how to pursue your goal. Good LUCK!!!!!!!!

I would suggest that you have your parents bring you to a local flight school and let you take and introductory flight, to make sure that you really want to do this. After that you can start taking lessons, you can't solo an aircraft until 16 and can't get you license until 17, but its never too early to start.

As far as school there are quite a few colleges and universities that have aviation programs. Embry-Riddle and University of North Dakota are couple of the more prominent schools, but there are plenty out there.

If you want more information about finding a flight school to start training at you should visit http://www.beapilot.com/ they have a ton of info. on starting to fly.

Also check out my yahoo 360 blog, I have been writing about the process of getting your private pilot rating.

Good luck!!!!
