Actually the answer above is the most correct but there is conflicting advice being given by the embassy and immigration i am a travel agent and in the past spain was the only country in europe that did not require 6 months validity and as long as the passport was valid for all the time you were there that was fine. Since then immigration have been telling people that they need 6 months so everyone is confused! I would get your passport renewed if you have time "just in case" and also cos if you want to go anywhere else you will definitely need 6 months validity. If you dont have time then go by whatever the embassy advises which i think is just have a valid passport! confusing or what!

All the answer`s on here so far have been wrong !
Ring the passport office on 0870 521 0410 ( i think it`s 24 hrs so you can do it now ) and listen to the message .
It clearly say`s that as long as your passport is valid on your return date then it is ok for you to travel !
I came back from spain on the 12 /11/06 at 8pm and my passport expired at midnight on the 12 / 11 / 06.

If you have a full Brititish Passport, you can visit any EU country, providing you have at least 3 clear months left from your intended date of return.
the reason for this is to allow sufficient time for the local British Consulate/Embassy to arrange a replacement, if you are delayed in the country (hospital, prison, etc).
All other countries generally ask for a minimum of six months. I hope that this helps.
