Something that you won't regret and hate yourself for wrapping around a tree or telephone pole. First learn to drive a piece of crap for the first 5 years and then move up to a newer vehicle. Start with a Chevy Impala or Ford Crown Victoria to get your driving experience, because if you can handle these cars and park them like a pro, then you're ready for newer vehicles.

I've answered this question many time, and it amazes me at how naive and ignorant many teenagers are in thinking that their first cars should be luxury or sports cars that people in their late 30s' and 40s' drive that have good driving experience.

Having a license doesn't make you a good driver, as only time and experience will. I'm not even sure you will be able to get an insurance policy in your name at your age without having to rely on your parent's policy to be listed as a teen driver, causing their policy to soar sky high.

Teen drivers are placed in the "assigned risk" category because of their tendency to do stupid things behind the wheel and their lack of experience in avoiding accidents. At age 26, your name comes off that list.

Last but not least, avoid bright colors because having a bright red or yellow car will have you pulled over by the cops every time. It has been psychologically proven that cops will fixate on bright colored vehicles.

Something safe and easy to drive.

I suggest a Volkswagen New Beetle.

Perfect car for a 17 year old girl. It's cute, small and easy to drive, but also extremely safe in an accident.

It comes in lots of great colors too and there are plenty on the used market if a new one is out of your price range.

- something with a small engine (because it will cost more on insurance the bigger the engine), so maybe a 1.2?
- something that's not brand new (or you know the first thing you'll do is go out and scrape it and then cry for a week)
- something with power stearing (because us girls don't have big strong arms for wrenching the thing around sharp corners)
- something with 5 doors, not 3 (so you have easy access for all your friends AND your shopping)
- a diesel (because they are better for the environment and nicer to drive)
- and lastly something that's a lovely colour :) cherry red? baby blue? deep purple? (but not something that's going to be too hard to sell on)

i love my vauxhall corsa. my best friend loves her renault clio, and another friend is really happy with her ford fiesta. and if you're from america you probably have no idea what im talking about :)

Something durable and not too expensive. Statistically younger people get in accidents, so you don't want to be in a BMW, Lexus, Acura when this happens. Probably a honda civic or toyota corolla until you get more experience.
