I take 1.5-3.0mg to help me sleep every night for over a year now and I think it is making me depressed. Is there a tried and true method for stopping this addiction and actually being able to fall asleep/stay asleep without it?

Your addiction is psychological...you shouldn't be physically addicted nor should that be making you depressed.

you will have to ween off slowly...but you really need to be talking with your Doctor about doing this....

yes Ativan is a highly addictive drug. Its best to wean off of it but you can take something else while doing so. Its been a crutch for you for awhile now, you can get off of it and get on somthing that isn't so addicting until you can try to fall asleep with out any meds.
If you are feeling depressed then you many need to change your med. It can be done. Good luck give your doc a call and tell him about this and get a fresh start on something else. good luck
Many people have insomnia, i do myself and take trazadone and it helps. I take the lowest dose, just enough to give me a tired feeling so i can go to sleep. Maybe suggest that to your doc.

I was addicted to Klonopin to get to sleep. I was put on another sllep aid and slowly weaned from that. I now only take the other sleep aid when I really need it as it is addictive also. The first week was hell, but I got through it.
