In the most Loving way possible I encourage you to read the King James Version of the Holy Bible and learn about Christians and Jews.
Jews Study and hold the Old testament but do not believe that Jesus is the Christ(Messiah).
Christians believe the Old testament and study and base their Faith on the New Testament and Christ's death, burial and Resurrection. That He is the promised Messiah, Jesus Christ.

The Jewish scripture is the Christian Old Testament. They don't by into the new testament.
The old testament talks of a savior that would come. Other words used are Christ or Messiah. Isiah 53 is one place to look at the scriptures of both that tell of the coming savior.
But, the Jews as a whole have not accepted Jesus as that savior. After Jesus came they changed their interpretation of verses like Isiah 53 from what was historically thought of them.
There are Jewish Christians and they are called Messianic Jews or Jews for Jesus. They accept that Jesus is the fulfillment of Olt Testament prophecy.
Though, the Jews who don't accept Jesus as the Messiah are not themselves living under their own religious laws or teachings anymore. According to the scriptures they follow there needs to be a yearly sacrifice at the temple. That hasn't happened in almost 2000 years.
To understand where the two differ you need to look at the mindset difference. The Jews were looking for a savior like King David. A mighty warrior to take them away from the physical oppression they were under during Jesus lifetime when Rome ruled. According to Christians Jesus came not to save them from the physical mess they were in but the spiritual mess we all are in.
Hope this helps.

no they do not. Our Christian bible is an interpretation from the Hebrew bible, but the words and meanings vary in many ways.
such as Christians undertand the Torah to be the Jewish bible, but Tora is better understood as meaning " instruction or teaching.
Christian bibles were translated from Hebrew to latin, then to english, many translations are lost and there are words misrepresented in our bible today.
It is understood that even in Jewish faith and Christian faith that the bible is an INSPIRATION of God's word, Have you never heard of dictation? That is like how the bible was written. It has many different authors, but it came from one source. God. God gave each person the words or insight to write and through these people, God's word was written.
If you want a closer walk with God and understand His ways, it would be good and beneficial for you to read the bible. One cannot be a Christian without first knowing who Jesus is, and what He did for us.
I mean no insult here, but the bible makes it quite clear the reasoning for destroying soddom and gamorah, and the earth ( the flood) we cannot pick and choose what we want out of the bible or from others teachings to suit our best interests.
If we desire a lifestyle that goes against God's will for our lives, we are calling God a liar and that He doesn't know what is good for us.
"Let God be true and every man a liar"
Proverbs is a great study tool for every day learning. You are missing so much in your CHristian walk when you do not take time out to read God's word. He wants a closeness with you and He left His word ( the Bible) as a guide so that we can get to know HIm and become apart of His family.
Ask yourself How do you define Christianity? Do you know the definition of Christianity? Do you know why the Jewish faith and Christianity are set apart from one another? Do you know why we are called Gentiles? It's all there in God's word, and believe it or not, it does make perfect sense.
God's word teaches " Everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial" You can go and have a same sex relationship if you'd like, but it isn't beneficial to you, and IF you read that in God's word, you would learn the benefits having a heterosexual relationship would bring the two of you.
You would also read that when the life is breathed into a body as it is in the womb... you will understand that it is a living creature as defined by the sexual encouter with a man and a woman ( Two will become one that can be said about thier seed) and we will read about when Mary became pregnant, she went to her relative ( Not sure, if cousin or aunt, ) but at thier converstion you will understand that the baby heard and by the Holy spirit leaped inside her.
you are allowed your choice, friend, but through prayer and a daily study and reading of God's word, you will learn that the things that may give us comfort, aren't the very things that will bring us eternal joy.

Good for you git. The first so many books of the Old Testament are called I think the Torah for the Jewish people. They also have the Talmud. My best friend is Jewish, lol, but she knows more about Christianity than being Jewish. She is married to a Christian. Anyway, we used to look a lot of things up about the Jewish beliefs and ceremonies and talk about them. I am sorry I do not remember more. A big hug for wanting to understand more about other religions.

I encourage you to read your Bible before you try to learn other religions, or unless you will go astray, and be confused.
Both Jews and Christians believe the Old testament (Torah)...But because the Jews don't believe Jesus as the Messiah (Christ) then they don't believe in the new testament, b/c the New Testament didn't take in effect until Jesus died on the Cross.

A christian who has never read the bible?
Maybe you have been raised in a christian home or in a christian community, but One does not just call themselves a christian by orientation.
Being Born-again mean having a relationship with Jesus, and that one turn from the old life, repent from it( to turn away and follow a sinful life no more), TRUST in Jesus as your LORD and Savior. And WANT to be close to Him and that means reading His word. These thing are a want issue NOT a "have to" issue. I would think you have not been born again.

Christians follow the NEW TESTEMENT. The reason that we include the OLD TESTEMENT in the bible is to show how Jesus fulfilled the prophesy of the OT. Besides, it's also a history lesson. If you are a Christian and have never read the bible, then read the Gospels first. Then move on to other books.

How the F can you claim to be a Christian and yet have never even read the Bible? If you had read it with a critical eye, you probably wouldntt be making that statement.... You do realize that nearly 95% of atheist on this site HAVE read your Bible, right?
Jews have the Torah which is ONLY the OT part of your Bible. Jews dont read the same book as you - you read the same book as they and have added another book to the mix, making God New and Improved like he is some kind of laundry detergent...

The distinction that separates modern Judaism from Christianity is that we believe the Jewish Messiah to be Jesus Christ. And we have the New Testament in addition to the Old Testament (or the Tanakh). Although, many Jewish people are coming to faith in Jesus as the Messiah. So, that's good news!
