I have a friend at work, she had her first baby 9 months ago and thinks her baby is the cutest in the world. She obviously thinks that because she is the baby's mother because the baby is NOT cute at all.

When other people bring in their kids, she says things like, "Your baby is cute, but not as cute as mine!" or she goes and grabs pictures of her baby to show the other parents that her baby is cute too. When someone leaves the room with their baby she will say, "My baby is so much cuter".

I just feel this is rude and just because she gave birth to the kid doesn't mean its better, cuter, smarter, etc. than everyone else's babies.

Is she an egomaniac as a parent?

Yeah, but mostly she's just insensitive.

Sounds like she views it as a contest.

She sounds like one of those people that have to be the center of every ones attention. Everyone believes their baby's is the cutest baby they have ever seen, it's very normal. Of course it's rude of her to say "my babies cuter" especially if she isn't just joking around. It's ok to have a sense of humor and joke around but if she's doing this out of meanest than someone should tell her how ugly it makes her look. Leave her baby out of it! It's not the child's fault that the mother acts out this way. Next time she says it to someone take her to the side and let her know it prolly hurts their feelings otherwise i would just ignore it. Maybe she'll stop if others don't acknowledge it.

She is taking it WAY too far. It is very rude to say something like that to another parent. I do understand her feelings, as I have a four-month-old son who seems to me to be the cutest baby in the world--but I would never say to another parent that my baby is cuter. That's extremely rude and simply unnecessary.

The closest thing to that that I have ever done, was just after my son was born, looking through baby magazines, and seeing babies in them, I would remark to my husband, "Our baby's cuter". But I was really joking, and not saying it to anyone else, so it wasn't harming anyone else.
Whereas what your friend is saying is potentially very hurtful.

HOWEVER--what you are saying is just as rude, if not worse. You say that "She obviously thinks that because she is the baby's mother because the baby is NOT cute at all."
That is also extremely rude. Maybe you should be looking at yourself as well.

Rude and inconsiderate. I would tell her that it is a matter of opinion on whose baby is cuter. Also, if you don't have any kids, I would make it a point to say, "You have the cutest baby I've EVER seen!" the next time someone else (besides her) brings in their baby or pictures. :)

All parents think their baby is the cutest. And a genius. It is a fact of life. So every other parent knows that. She seems a little loud but no it's not rude. It doesn't matter because my baby is the cutest j/k!

Yeah, I guess that's kinda rude. But, as a mother of a 9 month old, I can see where she is coming from. We all think our babies are the cutest. Just becuase it is true, doesn't mean I should say it.

She should engage that filter between her brain and her mouth.

she will be better, because she cant stand the happiness and joy of being a mother, and she will get over it when her baby get older

but despite that she is still rude becaus what will make the other people think? Tell her to have some common sence and all mothers do think their baby's cute even when they are not and tell her that no one is perfect and no babies are perfect

she's annoying. i have a friend from work that talks about her 9 year old all day long.

i would confront her and tell her that her comments are rude and others are getting offended. watch your tone of voice and make it sound neutral. otherwise your friend will turn into my coworker and u will hear about how perfect Betsy is for the next 18 years. just say something like " yeah Betsy is cute, but u know your
remarks are hurting people's feelings. maybe u shouldn't be so blunt to people because they are as happy with their babies as u r with yours and u r bursting their bubble"

it totally depends on her personality and how she says it. if she is just being funny or playing on the fact that she brags about her little one all the time then it wasn't meant to hurt someone else. she probably just says it because she knows that they'll just chuckle and they'll understand why she is saying it because they also think that no other baby is cuter than theirs.

a parent who doesn't think that their child is the best thing on earth is the ones you need to worry about.

do you have children yet? if not, then you'll understand someday.

just give her a fake smile and go about your business. everyone knows that i actually have the cutest little guy in the world. :)

That girl needs to learn about a little thing called tact. It is one thing to think your child is cuter or smarter or whatever. But it is entirely different to voice that. It is rude and tacky and she is making herself look like an ***. Plus, it isn't a friggin' competition. So, who cares whos baby is cuter. I'd say just let it go. She is making herself look really stupid. But if you want to put her in her place that would work too. ;)

All mom's are like that, but can you tell your friend that she only thinks her baby is the cutest in the world because she hasn't seen mine yet?
I'm just kidding, but I think that she is just unbelievably proud and just a little too good at showing off!
