Im mainly referring to a mild-high fever in terms of 99-101 degrees. Since the fever is not at a dangerous level would it be ideal to take cold medicine that just goes after the runny nose and congestion if there are no other signs that would warrant the use of acetaminphen

In my opinion, yes. If I run a fever or my kids run a fever, I'll let it run during the day and really push the fluids and fruit juices. If the fever runs into the night or it runs unusually high, I'll give my kids Motrin to bring it down so they can sleep or so something else bad doesn't happen.

But, yes, I think fevers serve a purpose, to kill those little micro-critters causing our illness in the first place. We live in a society trained to quell it at the first sign. I don't think that's best.

Although a fever is thought to be of some value in reducing the activities of bacteria and viruses ,a high fever can itself be a medical problem and should be treated with medication

The fever can also destroy the body system in the process of gettind rid of the pathogen. The body functions at a certain temperature window and if it increases the body systems begin to shut down.
So as much as the fever is the bodys mechanism to wade off pathogens its also destructive to the system.

Yes fever is a natural response to infection, but can be dangerous if allowed to go too high for too long. Reduce fever by taking warm bath and paracetomol. and expect the infection to take a little longer to resolve
