I am in the same situation and I will tell you I am on my guard all the time...One way I would be surprised is by him popping the question on something we do all the time, on a walk, eating dinner, watching a movie, I am waiting for him to do something different and then I know he will pop the question...haha Us females are onto you males and making it harder and harder to surprise us...I think if you pop the question like on a walk under the stars, or having dinner at a place you frequently have dinner and call ahead of time and they get in on it would be really cool and she wouldn't expect that at all...you could also do like a pre-test thing with a big heart cut into 3 pieces and giving her clues to match the 3 pieces together and then ending somewhere special where you could propose...putting the pieces of the puzzle together...she may know but it would still be special...good luck!!!

Put the ring in a box of cracker jacks. Place a card in there with the question. You really have to work hard to reseal the box without it looking bad. And, you have to make sure the ring is not thrown away by accident.
The only other way is to shock her with when/how. Depending on her personality, you can make it a large spectacle like the guy did at the Fiesta Bowl last night.
Let's presume she will be okay with this. Then, I would find a restaurant with singing waiters or a band. Get them to pop the question for you in a song and see if she was paying attention?
Another way would be to have it done on the radio. Prerecord a message and have a favorite station play it for you while you are with her.
Last resort, skywriting or a billboard.
These are guaranteed to shock and awe her into a response.

Do not do it on Valentines day, it is the most likely hit day there is for the question. Wait until the 15th or do it on the 13th.

You have to build momentum. Just wait a while until she kinds of forget that you are ready to propose. Send her flowers telling how much you love her and how ready you are to take it to the next level of commitment. Tell her parents that you guys are going to a specific restaurant tell your family as well. When she's not looking or goes to the bathroom be prepare to propose. You can have the ring put in a champagne glass or aside a dessert. Just find ways to make her feel special and wanted. Like you guys are the only two in the world.

Before she wakes up, slide out of bed so she doesn't notice & go get the ring ready.
Then come back to bed and gently wake her. Tell her you have a surprise for her but that she can't have it until she wakes up.
When she sits up, tell her the story of how you fell in love with her. Tell her she's the most beautiful woman you've ever known and ask if she'll marry you.

Tell her you have to go out of town for a couple days-for what ever reason-invite all of her/your friends and family to a nice restaurant-reserve a back room where she can't see everyone until she's really inside...like a separate banquet room w/ closeing doors- and have one of her (girl)friends take her there. Have every one hold a small white candle and when she walks in be at the door to surprise her! Make sure you have something romantic and sentimental planned out to say.
My husband did this for me when I knew he was gonna ask me. It was so amazing!! I had no idea he was so romantic! It blew me away!
My friend that brought me to the restaurant told me she had to use the restroom real bad and she wanted me to come inside w/ her, I had no clue! We were just walking by to go to the movies!

I knew my husband was going to propose to me... we even picked out the ring together... he made plans for us for the weekend and I knew for sure he was going to ask me then, when we left the house I saw the box with the ring in the same spot he had left it since we got it so it threw me off. i though maybe he's saving it for another time because he knew I was expecting it. so this particular weekend he took me to go see some caverns and i gave up on the idea that this was it, he wasn't going to ask me and just enjoyed our time together....then towards the end of the tour of the caverns the tour guide had asked us all to gather around, my husband (bf at the time) then got down on one knee in the middle of all the tourist and declared his love for me and proposed... I was so surprised and never suspected a thing. he thew me off by leaving the box, but taking the ring. good luck... I hope she says yes.

She knows its coming but she doesn't know when so dont do the typical dinner proposal. If she's getting all dressed up to go out with you she could be suspecting its coming. Do it when you guys are doing something you do all the time. It will come out of left field then.

take her somewhere. someone i know took his girl on a cruise and asked her on the 3rd night on the top deck at sunset. but you can just take her to a lake on a boat or something. the guy i know hid the ring on his hand, except the diamond was on the inside so it wouldn't catch her eye. but take her somewhere romantic and make it special with a good dinner or something. good luck

For this i suggest pulling in someone who knows her almost better than you do. Talking about her best friend unless you are it.
I will suggest finding out what her most romantic setting is from the BF and creating a version of it with out putting yourself too much out of pocket. you want it to be when the story of how you proposed is told it makes her weepy with emotion for years too come
