Would that energy be better spent staying here and fixing our own?

Ya....it's not like we don't already have enough to fix. It's just a common belief that we are expected to "fix" everyones problems unless we don't want to experience some ourselves. Supposidly they wouldn't be here if they had jobs there. Free trade had made many loose their livelyhood due to us. They wouldn't be here if our country wasn't a huge buyer of the drugs they grow and process so therefore we are responsible for their "drug lords" and corrupt practices. If we'd just let them come and go as they see fit, there wouldn't be human smuggling etc. tied to the corruption. Which is just playing the professional victim game. And we could go round and round like a dog chasing it's tail.

Yes...free trade did cause loss in agriculture. But we also lost businesses from here to their. Some of our factories went there. All the remittances they have received from people here, doesn't have appeared to make a dent in anything. Many Americans vacation there. Many get legal prescriptions from there and use some of their alternative medical clinics. That doesn't seem to have helped much either. We fund their drug business but that hasn't been reinvested in any other type of business. Our government gives them money as well. Yet nothing changes. What changes that might do some good.....I'm sure they'd scream about.....which also has direct ties to South America and I'm sure they'd be mad and offended too.

As far as I can see.....it's just the old "lets make white America feel guilty" trip. I mean look at the problems just trying to get a few think they should abide by basic laws....before long...even with a helpful hand and good intentions.....we'd still end up the bad guy.

Cause we NEED MORE TARGET PRACTICE! When I was growing up I went out into the woods and shot everyday. I became a good marksman before I ever got to the military. Now days, young men and women are enlisting into the military and have never even shot a .22, much less be proficient with it. This type of training is costing and extra $24,000 per new recruit. A waste of the taxpayers money. I am all for taking the problem to Mexico. The best defense is a good offense. If we get rid of their crooked government maybe it would take another 20 years before the Mexicans had another crooked one in place and started invading us again.

No one is saying that we should go down there and fix their Government. God knows we need to fix our own - however, as messed up as our Government is ...its still one of the good ones.

We need to sanction Mexico - no trading goods and or services - put pressure on them to improve their government. Because, that is why so many illegals are coming here. Mexico has oil, sandy beaches and many more natural resources that could easily provide for millions of people and create a strong economy with jobs - allowing families to stay together! Allowing people to support their families. The bottom line is that the Mexican government is so horribly corrupt that it creates layers and layers of problems.

I can't imagine because if we actually did they'd complain about that too. It would be one more place we had no business trying to influence or change. There would be complaints of us ruining their culture and putting in puppet governments. Of us doing it for their oil or whatever. Nothing this country does or does not do will ever please most people here or elsewhere, so we should just concentrate on taking care of ourselves. Let Mexicans take care of Mexico. That includes the illegal ones here, as we are tired of taking care of them and hearing their complaints.

We need to fix our own government and help American people. Every time we "help" somebody,it ends up backfiring. Latin America is so corrupt that if we were to help,as soon as we left it would be "business as usual" or worse.

Yeah, just like we told the British and the Irish to fix their own problems back home.

People who think we have an endless supply of resources suggest that. Don't they realize the US only "fixes" a country that has something we want?

The US suggests that because our government is buttinskis! Our country is going to pot, but lets worry about countries that dont give a sh**! That's smart

People immigrate here from Mexico, both legally and (more importantly) illegally.

They think that if they fix the reason why they leave their country and come to ours that there won't be as many illegal immigrants coming from Mexico.

Our government is... not fixable by monetary means. Try voting, that'll 'fix' our government.
