My bf had an MRI scan which showed "marked hydrocephalus, and a small aqueduct suggestive of aqueduct stenosis" what does this mean in plain english please?

Hydrocephalus is water on the brain.
Our brains are lubricated and cushioned by cerebro-spinal fluid, which drains away as it is made, so it doesn't build up. In hydrocephalus, something is blocking the fluid from draining away, which is probably the stenotic (narrowed) aqueduct (water-pipe). One of the drains in his brain is too narrow, and fluid is building up pressure on his brain. Since he went in for an MRI, and the problem is "marked," the pressure is affecting the way his brain works, which was causing whatever symptoms brought him in for diagnosis.
Treatment probably involves putting a little tube in his skull. In the old days, the tube would drain into the space around his intestines, but that might not be how they do things now. I'm betting the solution will involve endoscopic surgery, which is minimally invasive. An endoscope is like a tiny pipe snake that can go in through a key-hole-sized hole. It has a camera on the end, so the surgeon can see what he's doing with the tiny instruments that can be threaded through the endoscope. So they won't have to gut him like a fish or anything.
It's not too uncommon a problem.

Im a nurse and have come into contact with numerous clients who have been diagnosed with Hydrocephalus and aqueduct stenosis. It can be a complex matter with numerous causes. What I suggest that you dom is contact the department concerned and ,make an appointment to go and ask the relevant questions. They will be able to give you the appropriate and relevant information regarding your bf's case. Keep your head guys!

It means the ventricles in his brain are swelling with fluid. The ventricles are spaces in the brain that hold cerebrospinal fluid, which is the liquid that bathes your brain and spinal cord. Ever seen those babies with the huge heads? That's severe hydrocephalus. Aqueduct stenosis means there is narrowing of the tube to where the CSF should drain out normally. Hope this helps.

Look it up. It's real, but probably not in the way that you think because you are asking about it. The person can still see color just certain colors are not as sharp or existent as others.
